Country Watch Newsletter Country Watch Newsletter Tandridge Country Watch Newsletter Bulletin No: 05 5th March 2020 Email: [email protected] Dear Country Watch Members, I have included the following to our Neighbourhood Watch members, but I make no apology for raising it with you further, and as a single matter of particular importance at this time. The issue is not confined to Tandridge, but is nationwide. The Catalytic Converter thefts from vehicles are being undertaken in broad daylight. The perpetrators even have the audacity and venality to block a road of traffic for however long it takes, with a masked lookout to confront anyone who dares to challenge. In a car's exhaust system, catalytic converters clean up harmful gases before they exit the exhaust pipe. It is located in a box on the exhaust pipe under a car. In order to steal it, thieves slide under the car and use high-powered cutting tools to detach the box from the pipes around it. The prices of certain precious metals have skyrocketed in the last 18 months. Palladium is now worth £1,300 per ounce, while rhodium goes for £4,000 per ounce, Although there are 10,000 different types of converters, the cars that are most often targeted are hybrid vehicles. Since hybrid cars have two power sources - electric and petrol or diesel - the catalytic converter is used less frequently to process pollutants. The metals are less likely to corrode, meaning they are worth more and thus attractive to thieves. We advise that vehicle owners consider taking the following safety measures: Mark catalytic converters with a serial number to make it distinctive Place a protective covering over the catalytic converter Install CCTV and alarms Park vehicles so as to prevent access underneath Should you come across a theft taking place, please dial 999 immediately. Kind Regards pp. Karen Hughes Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Crime Prevention Should you require further information on crime prevention matters or require a new Country Watch sign then please contact our Crime Reduction Adviser, Mr Mark Howells via [email protected] or 101 ext: 37044 Incidents of note in Tandridge Reported crimes across rural Tandridge Scotts Hill, Outwood – Sometime overnight between 29/02 & 01/03/20 offender(s) have forced entry to a container and stolen tools, an air rifle plus tins of ammunition (Ref: 45200024473) Ivy Mill Lane, Godstone – Sometime overnight between 26/02 & 27/02/20 offender(s) have forced entry to a stables/tack room. • C&F September Minutes 2019 2
Chelsham and Farleigh Parish Council The minutes of the meeting of the Chelsham and Farleigh parish council held at the St Marys church hall Farleigh on 2nd September 2019. In attendance, Jan Moore – chair Lesley Brown – vice chair Nancy Marsh Barbara Lincoln Peter Cairns The meeting opened at 8.02pm under the chairmanship of Jan Moore. 1. Apologies for absence were received from –Michelle Richards – clerk illness. Jeremy Pursehouse. Annual leave. There were no other apologies received. The previous meetings minutes were agreed subject to the amendment in item 3 below as a true record and signed by the chair. 2. There were no declarations of interest. It was noted also that the Clerk also needs to fill in Declaration of Interest form. One member of the public arrived after the meeting opened. A local resident Mrs Elizabeth Gates. Mrs Gates requested that the parish council contact Surrey C.C. with regard to the overgrown hedge on both sides of the road from the Old Rectory Cottage right through to the farm buildings where the Farleigh Court Golf course side entrance meets the road. This applies to both sides of the road along this section. The hedge is a hindrance to both horse riders and larger vehicles due to it hanging down in the middle of the road. The old Moat is also in desperate need of attention. The Parish Council should write to Merton College who we believe are responsible for it and to highlight the condition requesting that they consider giving it some attention. 3. Amendment to previous minutes dated 1st July 2019.

  • Tatsfield Village Design Statement 2015
TATSFIELD PARISH COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT STATEMENT 2015 1 TATSFIELD PARISH COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT STATEMENT 2015 Aims to articulate the vision of Tatsfield as expressed in the 2013 Village Appraisal to provide the Parish Council with a valid benchmark for considering planning applications to influence householders and developers to ensure a high standard of development is proposed to influence the planning authority in its consideration of planning and development matters for Tatsfield Background Tatsfield can trace its origins back a thousand years or more. In the Domesday Book of 1086, the Normans recorded that they had inherited from Saxon England a scattering of farmsteads in what was then known as Tatelefelle with perhaps only two dozen inhabitants. That figure had risen to only 100 by the year 1725. It was only in the late 1800s, as Londoners began to look outside the capital for places to live and wealthier landowners began to break up their estates into hundreds of small building plots that numbers began to rise significantly. Development was encouraged as plans were announced for new railway lines. Several schemes would have meant running a line through the North Downs under Tatsfield but the only local one to be built was between Woldingham and Oxted. The only one intended to serve Tatsfield was the Orpington, Cudham and Tatsfield Light Railway. This was given the go- ahead in 1898 with its terminus where Tatsfield School is now sited, but the promoters were not able to raise the money needed. Nevertheless, the prospect of better transport links with London helped Tatsfield expand into a modest village with 600 residents by 1901.
