The war showed the differences both brothers and their families and while Rudolf was captured by American troops for a murder which was informed by his own brother Adolf. This later on parted the brother later on as in 1948 Rudolf went across town to found the brand Puma and Adolf stayed and renamed his company Adidas, a play on words from his nickname Adolf Adi Dassler. In1973 Adolf’s son Horst Dassler founded a swimwear brand called Arena. After Adolf’s death in1978, his Horst and his wife took over Adidas until 1987 where he past away. Adidas was then made into a private limited company in 1989 but remained in the Dassler name until 1995 where its shares were sold to expand it into what it is today. Adidas • German company which is known mainly to produce sportswear. • Founded in 1924 and officially registered in 1949 by Adolf Dassler. • HQ is based in Herzogenaurach, Germany. • Total Worth: 5.5 Billion (EURO). • Adolf Dassler’s older brother, Gebruder Dassler founded and developed the brand Puma. Logo Evolution #1 The Three Stripes: No actual logo however, every product would be known to be by Adidas since it would have three stripes on it. #2 The Trefoil: The three stripes are still incorporated within the image. This logo was made to show the expansion of the company yet still staying to its true roots. #3 The Three Bars: Somewhat resemblance to a mountain however, they company wanted to portray and more powerful and striking logo on their equipment. The logo itself is very empowering due to its simplicity and the fact that it is very recognisable. Adidas can always alter it in certain ways but anyone will know what company it is from. [https://www.logaster.com/blog/adidas-logo/] They have now expanded to a variety of products both heavily related to sport as that’s what the company originally started off however, as time has gone on they have gone into fashion as well by using the material they use for their sport clothing. Adidas are heavily affiliated with the sport of football on a international basis. They have are the creators of team shirts for champion sides such as Bayern Munich (GER), Real Madrid (ESP), Chelsea (ENG), AC Milan (ITY) as well as countries of the highest calibre like Argentina, Germany, Japan, Russia, Mexico, Sweden, Spain, and Denmark. Adidas has now developed into such a broad and empowering brand that they create almost every item needed for every sport. Taking football for example they have their own kits, footballs, boots, gloves, goal posts, water bottles, sweat bands, captain’s armband, socks, skins and sports-bag. In terms of basketball they have done the same where literally every factor that goes into playing the actual sport can be done through the entire product they have created. Having their own basketballs, basketball shoes, vests, shorts, baskets as well as nets, ball bags and more. Real Madrid FC Goalkeeper Argentina Home Kit Chelsea FC Home Kit Sweden Home Kit Kit These are just selected screenshots of the variety of equipment and clothing Adidas have for the sport of football. Not only are they heavily related to selected teams for which they have made kits for but they have also taken into account their own personal style of work. By producing all this just for one sport is shows how heavily afflicted the brand is with Football and sport in general. All of this is official gear of the actual teams, which makes it more valuable and wanted. Adidas also have gone a step further for selected sports by sponsored certain athletes. For football Adidas has sponsored a whole first eleven and substitutes of the highest calibre. Players that include the talented Lionel Messi, Gareth Bale, Bastian Sweinsteiger, Xavi Hernandez, Manuel Neuer and more. All of these world-class players are associated with the brand and Adidas make sure that their gear and products are associated with these all star players. Lionel Messi a talented footballer and arguably one of the best footballers in the world have his own collection of football boots with Adidas. The image on the right is one of his latest releases with the brand. Adidas sponsor a lot of athletes from a whole range of sports. ADIDAS.

The company first started out as a little-known shoe factory named “Dassler Brothers Shoe Company” by brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassier. However, a family feud split them apart, with Adolf taking full control of the business and changing its name, in 1949, to “Adidas”: the formation from his nickname Adi and the first three let- ters of his last name. After being able to trademark the three stripes and the brand name, Adolf has been able to expand Adidas into the success that it is now. Before the feud, the two brothers released cleats that showed two stripes on the side of each cleat. This was for the mere purpose of the shoe’s bend and tightness. After the split, Adolf added an additional stripe to the two existing stripes. He realized that another company, “Karhu Sports,” had trademarked the three stripe logo. So, Adolf Dassler bought over the company to be able to have the rights over the logo. Once acquired, Adolf started using the three stripes on his footwear and his logos. During the 1920s, Adolf had famous olympic athletes such as Georg Lammers and Lina Radke wear his shoes which was a successful marketing technique becuase they both ended Original logo created in 1949. up winning medals. i “One of the most interesting and unusual books on family businesses I have ever read… profound, rich and reflective." Konstantin von Unger, fifth generation family member and member of the Supervisory Board of the Henkel Group “Lessons of failure can be as instructive as lessons of success. Devoted business-owning families study both. Two long-committed students of family business have collaborated on this interesting and valuable book." John L Ward, Principal, The Family Business Consulting Group, Intl and Clinical Professor of Family Enterprises, Kellogg School of Management “Where would insurance, engineering and aviation be without the through examination of disasters? Where would medicine be without the postmortem analysis of pathology? Grant Gordon and Nigel Nicholson have made a tremendous contribution to our understanding of family dysfunction and conflict. Family Wars is conceptually thorough with many real-world case examples from which the authors draw important practical lessons. The book is essential reading for anyone interested in both the discontinuity and continuity of family enterprise.” Ivan Lansberg, Ph.D., Senior Partner, Lansberg, Gersick & Associates “Family Wars is not just a collection of juicy inside stories about conflicts in famous business families. It's an analytical look into the emotions which drive family firms through the lens of a trained profes- sional and experienced educator.
