It could “only mean one thing – the main road was blocked. I ran from the house, in my sock soles, to see. What met me was a car set sideways across the main road. An off-duty policeman confirmed that there was a bomb left at the police station about seventy yards away, “It’s been there a good ten minutes now.” “Have all the houses been cleared? ” I shouted. “Not sure” was his reply. I saw a few of my neighbours diving into cars at that second. I ran like I never ran before to the house of a neighbour and pensioner, Mrs McCrea. I banged on her door. She peeked out from behind the curtain. I was most likely scaring her but I shouted, “We have to get out of here.” I went in and she was looking for her slippers. I said, “Just pull on anything.” I lifted her under the arms, her facing me and I ran, again faster than I had ever run. We had just got behind the policeman’s car when the bomb went off. I dived to the grass verge, me covering my neighbour. Her squeals will be forever in my ears. Suddenly a loud “whoosh” went past. The policeman was shouting “Stay down, it all has to come down again.” The sound of falling bits of whatever rained down, in through the trees and on the road behind me. As we got up, the policeman pointed in front of us, a wheel with parts of the “ drive and suspension lay about ten yards away. That’s what the “whoosh” was. Thank God we were on the ground, thank God. Burroughs on Railway Street. From 1913 right up until his death in 1960, Herbert set about recording every facet of life in his adopted town as well as beyond. The vast collection, now housed in Belfast are an amazing document of life in the north west during the first half of the 20th century featuring the seismic political events such as the Home Rule crises, WW1, natural disasters, sport, entertainments, as well as the studio portraits which were the stock in trade of the small town photographer. The History and Museums Service of Derry City and Strabane District Council with the generous support of the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland have collected together over 50 images which reflect the rich diversity of what has been described as one of the most important documentary collections in Ireland. 5 The Alley Events Guide cinema Easter Cinema Day HOP Saturday 13 April, 2pm Tkts: £3 E.B., the Easter Bunny’s teenage son, heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock ‘n’ roll band. Museum Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald, St. Oswald Mehr über unsere Zusammenarbeit mit ihr lest Ihr hier Terminsache II An unsere Freunde/Leserinnen in Irland: In 2005 the Mixed Choir of the BASF Choral Society toured Ireland and had only positive things to tell about the trip, the response of their Irish audience and about the splendid organisation of it as carried out by Gaeltacht Travel Agency. This led to the growing wish among the members of the BASF Men’s Choir to follow suit. Other Men’s choirs from Hermersberg (MGV Frohsinn) and Pirmasens (Chorgemeinschaft Windberg) that are in close contact with the BASF Men’s Choir expressed a similar interest, and thus the project of an “Irish Concert Tour” was born – for all three of them. Nearly 50 men came together in order to form a project choir – because to a true choir member a trip without singing together is simply not imaginable! German folk songs, selections from musicals and operas, sacred music etc. were rehearsed, and choirmaster Wolfgang Sieber, who also conducts the choir, was able to prepare the singers to the best of their musical skills.

• Moving Hearts: the Storm
Und was hatte man gehört?
