It is located midway between Baltimore and Philadelphia near the northern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. WNA is a co-ed, independent, boarding and day, college preparatory school dedicated to the intellectual, ethical, and social growth of each student. The school enrolls approximately 135 students in grades nine through post graduate representing seventeen countries and nine states. Approximately eighty percent of the students are boarders. West Nottingham Academy is a world community providing students many opportunities to thrive in a rapidly changing world while learning in small classes with an impressive 7:1 teacher to student ratio. The academic program and extracurricular offerings include cutting edge, environmental, STEAM, humanities, and wellness programs which support student growth through individual attention in rigorous, challenging offerings. WNA offers 20 courses with AP, honors or advanced designation. Notable programs include our environmental and sustainability programs, artist in residence and student artist in residence studio’s, as well as a developing Innovation Center and STEAM curricula. WNA supports students with learning differences through the Chesapeake Learning Center (CLC) which provides individual and small group settings to provide an ideal setting to improve executive functioning, time management, and organizational skills. The English as a Second Language Center (ESL) provides support to our international student body with two levels of English and History classes. Class of 2018 Senior Enrollment: 40 Middle 50% SAT Scores from the Class of 2017: Class Test Score Mean: SAT (1600) 1170 Evidence Based Reading and Writing: 540; Mathematics: 590 ACT: 26.4 Grading System: A+ = 97-100% = 4.33; A = 93-96% = 4.0; A- = 90-92% = 3.67; etc. Advanced Placement & Honors Courses: AP courses are given an additional 0.15 GPA weight per trimester and Honors courses are given an additional 0.075 GPA weight per trimester. WNA does not report class rank. Grades earned at prior institution(s) do not factor in to West Nottingham GPA. ACADEMIC PROGRAM WNA’s academic requirements for graduation are based on a quarter and semester system with a four-year course of study. One credit is given for a year-long course, 0.5 for semester courses, and 0.25 for our quarter length senior seminar courses. Students must earn a minimum of 21.5 credits over four years to graduate with a WNA diploma. Students must earn a minimum number of service learning, culture credits, and nature credits each year. Please note that following required core curriculum represents WNA’s minimum course of study. 4 credits in English 3 credits in History, including US History 3 credits in Mathematics, through Algebra II 3 credits in Science, specifically lab sciences 3 credits in one World Language • credits may be modified for students using CLC or ESL support services 2 credits in Art 1 credit in Senior Seminar which includes a quarter each of: ethics, religion, senior research paper 2.5 additional credits, including health, and athletic courses** ** WNA requires students to participate in one team sport or PE class every day. Students are graded on a pass/fail system and grades are recorded on their transcripts. Advance Placement (AP) designation is granted in the following subjects (although not all are offered every year): English Literature and Composition, European History, United States History, Psychology, Calculus AB & BC, Statistics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics 1, 2 & C, Biology, Environmental Science, Spanish, French, Studio Art and Music Theory. All students are required to sit for the May AP exams.
