  • Badminton Denmark As a Global Player in Asia
2019 Badminton Denmark as a global player in Asia A STUDY ON HOW BADMINTON DENMARK CAN INCREASE ITS POPULARITY IN DENMARK THROUGH ASIAN PARTNERSHIPS WITH A FOCUS ON CULTURAL DIFFERENCES AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS BY: CHARLOTTE CARLSEN (116330) Master’s Thesis Study program: International Business Communication/cand.ling.merc Copenhagen Business School CBS Supervisor: Sven Junghagen Number of characters: 144,428 Submitted: 16.09.2019 Charlotte Carlsen Master Thesis 16.09.2019 116330 CBS Executive summary: This thesis provides an understanding of international relationships within the sports industry and how they can solve or reduce complex issues of a sport federation. The purpose of the thesis aims to examine the extent to which international relationships can assist in achieving objectives despite the impact of cultural differences. The case used to analyze the objective of this thesis is Badminton Denmark since they are dependent on international relationship with Asia to reduce resource dependence and achieve complex objectives. Methods of analysis include a qualitative in-depth interview with the CEO of Badminton Denmark to receive internal information of strategic choices and a general understanding of the federation as an organization. Other analysis include a cultural country comparison to illustrate cultural implications of international relationships and how they are affected by them. The results showed that international relationships are complex and can reduce several issues, however, it is difficult to provide a general understanding of how an organization should implement and use the partnerships since they are particular to each specific situation. Furthermore, cultural differences between the partners impact the functioning of the international relationships, and organizations should, therefore, incorporate cultural understandings as a part of their implementation of international partnerships.

  • Which Nation Is Best in Nordic Elite Sport?
Which nation is best in Nordic elite sport? Which nation is best in Nordic elite sport? An analysis of the results of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in international elite sport - past and present By Michael Andersen, Scandinavian Network for Elite Sport (1) This article focuses on elite sport in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, from historical and current perspectives. These Nordic nations have far more similarities than dissimilarities. They are all strong welfare models. Frequently, the model of Nordic welfare is admired by people, both inside and outside the Nordic nations. This model forms values, standards, structures and organization of a number of areas in the societies, including sport for all and elite sport. All four nations rank high in international comparison of e.g. economy, education, health or trust in public authorities. But how well do the nations perform, globally and among each other when it comes to elite sport? Why have they chosen four different elite sport models? Which nations prioritize winter sports, and which prioritize summer sports. And what sports - Olympic or non-Olympic - are the most competitive in each nation? These questions are attempted answered in the following pages. Introduction: Comparative studies (always) contains methodological challenges It is difficult to make valid comparative analyses of each nation’s performance in international elite sport, due to a number of methodological challenges. Pressing questions are for instance: Which Olympic and non-Olympic sports should be included
