Mehedi Alam b, Mohammad Mahfujul Haque b,* a Department of Fisheries, University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, Bangladesh b Department of Aquaculture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT Keywords: This study evaluates changes in fish species diversity over time in Hakaluki Haor, an ecologically critical wetland Haor in Bangladesh, and the factors affecting this diversity. Fish species diversity data were collected from fishers using Fish species diversity participatory rural appraisal tools and the change in the fish species diversity was determined using Shannon- Fishers Wiener, Margalef's Richness and Pielou's Evenness indices. Principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted Principal component analysis with a dataset of 150 fishers survey to characterize the major factors responsible for the reduction of fish species Climate change fi Anthropogenic activity diversity. Out of 63 sh species, 83% of them were under the available category in 2008 which decreased to 51% in 2018. Fish species diversity indices for all 12 taxonomic orders in 2008 declined remarkably in 2018. The first PCA (climatic change) responsible for the reduced fish species diversity explained 24.05% of the variance and consisted of erratic rainfall (positive correlation coefficient 0.680), heavy rainfall (À0.544), temperature fluctu- ation (0.561), and beel siltation (0.503). The second PCA was anthropogenic activity, including the use of harmful fishing gear (0.702), application of urea to harvest fish (0.673), drying beels annually (0.531), and overfishing (0.513).

Islam2 1Department of Agricultural Economics and Policy, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh 2Department of Agricultural Economics, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh-2202, Bangladesh ABSTRACT The study examined the profitability and factors affecting farm income from pig farming in Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh. A multistage sampling technique was followed to select 70tribal women entrepreneurs involved with pig farming. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, benefit-cost analysis, and linear regression model. Average age of pig entrepreneurs was 39.47 years which indicates that they are young and agile. About 71% of Garo entrepreneurs had experience for pig farming. The cost and return analysis showed that in one year, the gross margin was Tk. 56743.70, while the benefit-cost ratio (BCR) was 1.19 indicating that the enterprise is profitable. Regression analysis revealed that three variables namely farm size, age of the respondent and experience of pig farming are significant factors affecting farm income. Thus, it was recommended that tribal women should be encouraged to practice pig farming to overcome their low income and unemployment situation. Government has taken various initiatives to alter this situation. The present paper is based on intensive literature survey and tries to explore the country’s overall biodiversity situation, biodiversity-development links, present trends and causes of depletion of biodiversity, biodiversity conservation initiatives in the country, major policy and legislation to conserve biodiversity, biodiversity research initiatives, prosperous sector of biodiversity etc. Finally the study concludes that, a separate statutory body or institution is fundamental to ensure conservation; sustainable use and equitable sharing of benefits arisen from biodiversity products and benefits in the country.   • Inventory of LGED Road Network, March 2005, Bangladesh
    The Chief Engineer Local Government Engineering Department PREFACE It is a matter of satisfaction that LGED Road Database has been published through compilation of data that represent all relevant information of rural road network of the country in a structured manner. The Rural Infrastructure Maintenance Management Unit of LGED (former Rural Infrastructure Maintenance Cell) took up the initiative to create a road inventory database in mid nineties to register all of its road assets country-wide with the help of customized software called, Road and Structure Database Management System. The said database was designed to accommodate all relevant information on the road network sequentially and the system was upgraded from time to time to cater the growing needs. In general, the purpose of this database is to use it in planning and management of LGED's rural road network by providing detailed information on roads and structures. In particular, from maintenance point of view this helps to draw up comprehensive maintenance program including rational allocation of fund based on various parameters and physical condition of the road network. According to recent road re-classification, LGED is responsible for construction, development and maintenance of three classes of roads, which has been named as Upazila Road, Union Road and Village Road (category A & B) in association with Local Government Institution. The basic information about these roads like, road name, road type, length, surface type, condition, structure number with span, existing gaps with length, etc. has been made available in the road inventory. Side by side, corresponding spatial data are also provided in the road map comprising this document.

It rises in the mountains of the Indian state of Tripura. It enters Kulaura Upazila of Maulvi Bazar District of Bangladesh. Later it joins Manu River in Rajnagar Upazila. The co- ordinates of Dhalai River at Ambassa are 23.55'128'' N and 91.51'204'' E in degrees minutes seconds (DMS). It originate from Atharamura Hill and is 117 kilometres (73 mile) long. Some of the popular riverside township of Dhalai River are Ambassa town, Baralutma and Kamalpur town. Water quality of lakes, rivers and reservoirs in developing countries like India is being degraded because of the contaminated inflows and surrounding influence. There is a serious need for appropriate water quality monitoring for future planning and management of Lake and other type of water resources.
