The assessment used sophisticated resource modeling that was validated by a ground measurement campaign. Results from the project included a long-term, correlated wind data set; validated high-resolution wind resource maps; and publicly available data accessible through the RE Data Explorer (https://www.re- explorer.org/). The Renewable Energy (RE) Data Explorer allows users to access and download the Bangladesh wind resource assessment data and related geographic information system (GIS) data sets and perform customized technical potential analyses. Figure ES-1 is an example wind resource map for Bangladesh that can be created with the RE Data Explorer. Figure ES-1. Wind resource map of Bangladesh and measurement locations This project improved upon existing global data sets by using best-in-class modeling techniques and analysis. Global models are good first steps in predicting wind resources in various parts of the world, but they do not generate the accuracy needed to reduce project risk and stimulate renewable investment. This project improved the quality of modeled wind resource data for Bangladesh. In addition to the modeling effort, the project team used a multi-year, local data-collection campaign to validate the model and further improve the accuracy of the data sets. The measurement campaign consisted of nine meteorological sites representing all geographical regions of the country. Seven meteorological towers and one remote- iii sensing, sonic detection and ranging unit (deployed at two sites) collected the data. Site-selection criteria focused on geographic diversity and proximity to existing transmission lines. Figure ES-1 shows measurement locations. The measurement campaign spanned June 2014 through December 2017. The results of the Bangladesh wind resource assessment will help Bangladesh overcome significant energy challenges. Its energy sector suffers from power shortages, increasing demand, decreasing domestic natural gas reserves, and inadequate transmission infrastructure. As part of a comprehensive plan to overcome these challenges, Bangladesh has committed that 10% of the total generation capacity will be renewable energy by 2021 (Power Division 2016). High-quality renewable energy resource data and other GIS data, such as those developed in this assessment, are important if Bangladesh wishes to reach its 10% renewable energy capacity target. These data support informed decision making, ranging from policy and investment decisions to reliable power sector planning. Specifically, the Bangladesh wind resource assessment will help reduce technical risk and encourage private-sector interest in the nascent wind market in Bangladesh. In addition, the Government of Bangladesh may use the results of the wind resource assessment to develop well-designed policies that could encourage investment in wind energy. Complete inventory of two families, the Apocynaceae and Vitaceae, has been made and recognized 28 threatened species facing environmental threats, and need sustainable conservation management. The study was based on long-term field investigation, survey of relevant floristic literature and examination of herbarium specimens. An enumeration of threatened taxa is prepared with updated field data on conservation status to include into Red Data Book of Bangladesh. Introduction Global biodiversity is depleting at an alarming rate due to human interferences and environmental degradation, causing high risk of extinction. Human impact on nature has reached at such a high proportion that the world is today witnessing an unprecedented rate of species loss. Many more species are disappearing from the nature before their discovery and determination. The disaster killed an estimated 160 persons, including 115 persons in Rangamati alone. According to the Chittagong Divisional Health Office Control Room Report, a total of 187 injured persons were admitted in local level hospitals. Approximately 85% of patients were admitted in Rangamati. While landslide related disaster occurs nearly every year, the second highest death toll of 127 deceased persons was recorded in 2007 [Disaster Forum, June 2017]. Monsoon rains caused severe flooding in low-lying areas to significantly damage road and communication infrastructure. Flood water rendered remote communities in Bandarban, Chittagong, and Rangamati districts were inaccessible by road. On June 14th, mudslides in southeast Bangladesh claimed additional lives in Cox's Bazaar and Khagrachari districts to further damage homes and infrastructure.

    CIFORB Country Profile – Bangladesh Demographics • Obtained independence from Pakistan (East Pakistan) in 1971 following a nine month civil uprising • Bangladesh is bordered by India and Myanmar. • It is the third most populous Muslim-majority country in the world. • Population: 168,957,745 (July 2015 est.) • Capital: Dhaka, which has a population of over 15 million people. • Bangladesh's government recognises 27 ethnic groups under the 2010 Cultural Institution for Small Anthropological Groups Act. • Bangladesh has eight divisions: Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet (responsible for administrative decisions). • Language: Bangla 98.8% (official, also known as Bengali), other 1.2% (2011 est.). • Religious Demographics: Muslim 89.1% (majority is Sunni Muslim), Hindu 10%, other 0.9% (includes Buddhist, Christian) (2013 est.). • Christians account for approximately 0.3% of the total population, and they are mostly based in urban areas. Roman Catholicism is predominant among the Bengali Christians, while the remaining few are mostly Protestants. • Most of the followers of Buddhism in Bangladesh live in the Chittagong division. • Bengali and ethnic minority Christians live in communities across the country, with relatively high concentrations in Barisal City, Gournadi in Barisal district, Baniarchar in Gopalganj, Monipuripara and Christianpara in Dhaka, Nagori in Gazipur, and Khulna City. • The largest noncitizen population in Bangladesh, the Rohingya, practices Islam. This cyclone originally came from the Indian ocean (Bay of Bengal) at a speed of about 39 km/h. On 30 May 2017, tropical cyclone Mora-17 made landfall first on Cox’s Bazar District and a few hours later in the Chittagong Districts with a maximum sustainable wind speed of 130 km/h. The tropical cyclone is expected to move to the northeast of India in the next few hours however strong winds might still cause floods and mudslides. Based on data of the observed and predicted tropical cyclone path, wind speeds from JRC (Warning 11 issued the 30th May 2017 at 09:00 UTC), and population data from WorldPop, UNITAR-UNOSAT conducted a population exposure analysis for Bangladesh : - 10,074,699 people are living within 120 km/h wind zones, - 2,803,908 people are living within 90km/h wind zones, and - 67,435,625 people are living within 60km/h wind zones. Also included is an estimation of the population living within flood hazard zones from the last 25 years (GAR 2015) and exposed to winds of 60km/h to 120km/h speed in Bangladesh.

Accepted 25 October 2012 The paper analyzes the problems and prospects of rice marketing in Bangladesh by way of using secondary data as well as primary data. Both secondary and primary data are indicative of the fact that rice marketing in Bangladesh is marred by a wide range of problems including packaging, transporting, storage, distribution and pricing. There is a comparative advantage in the production of high yielding rice in Bangladesh but its marketing system is not suitable to the small farmers to bring fair price. Most of the respondents’ opined the major causes of price hike are natural disaster, inadequate supply of food grain in the market, less production, hoarding by traders and creating artificial food crisis in the market, problems of communication system, increase of middlemen in the market to reach food grain to consumers. This study is explanatory in nature which suggests measures that can benefit both the farmers and the end users. Key words: Agriculture, marketing, Bangladesh.
