Later she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. [16] - References: · And Amminadab became father to Nahshon, and Nahshon became father to Salmon. (Ruth 4:20) · Ram became father to Amminadab. Amminadab became father to Nahshon. Nahshon became father to Salmon. (Matthew 1:4) · And these were the names of Aaron’s sons, the firstborn Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. (Numbers 3:2) · And as for you, bring near to yourself Aaron your brother and his sons with him from the midst of the sons of Israel that he may act as priest to me, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron. (Exodus 28:1) · The following are the things inventoried of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the Testimony, which was inventoried at the command of Moses, as the service of the Levites under the guidance of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. If there are people around, you would name these sins silently. If there is no one around, then it does not matter if you name them silently or whether you speak aloud.

Ray, Jr. Introduction nterest in the biblical genealogies was cultivated as early as the post- exilic period. The authors of the various Apocryphal (Tob 1:1–2), I Pseudepigraphal (Jubilees 4:1–33), NT (Matt 1:1–17), and Rabbinic writings (b. Pes 62b) produced at that time considered this type of literature to be historically accurate. This was the dominant position until the latter half of the nineteenth century when serious doubts were raised concerning the use of this material for writing history. Ancient Near Eastern parallels to the early parts of Genesis led scholars to suspect that their biblical counterparts might have been extracted from these early legends and myths.     Some Theoretical Musings on the Name Benjamin in the Book of Mormon From the beginning, Hebrew scholars have realized that there is inherent meaning in the names of persons mentioned in the Bible. Similarly, Book of Mormon scholars have sought ancient Middle Eastern-linked meaning in the names of persons mentioned in the Book of Mormon. (See my Commentary: 1 Nephi 1, and also Book of Mormon Onomasticon.) In recent times, scholars are postulating that the meaning of Book of Mormon names extends beyond just the simple meaning of the roots that make up the names. For example, the name Nephi has not only been associated with “good,” but various scriptures in the Book of Mormon have been identified that use “wordplay” to highlight that meaning. Moreover, in the account in Second Maccabees 1, the name “Nephi” is given to a substance that is linked to the restoration of covenant temple ordinances (covenant salvation). The same can be said about the name Mormon. It has also been linked with the meaning of “good.” However, we find in 3 Nephi 5:12 we find that Mormon himself links his name with the place where the covenant church was restored. Thus the names of two most important men involved in the composition of the Book of Mormon are linked with covenant restoration. When we link this knowledge with the fact that the Book of Mormon now carries the name “Another Testament of Jesus Christ,” and that the word “testament” means “covenant—thus rendering the title: “The Book of Mormon: The Restored Covenant of Jesus Christ,” – then we find an amazing correlation.

Now when you endeavor to take on the task of going through God’s Word systematically as we have, there are some less desirable portions of scripture. Oftentimes a new Christian, just on fire for the Lord, they will zealously set out to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. And they will be doing awesome, and having great enthusiasm as they learn of the 6 day creation account, also the knowledge of how the sin problem entered our world, they are intrigued through Cain and Abel’s story, then they get to Chapter 5 and they completely peter out as they get to a long list of names, as the family of Adam is registered in a monotonous list of names. To our western minds, there is nothing more laborious than reading through a list of hard to pronounce names. But understand something about God’s Word, names matter to God. The genealogical record holds some very valuable parts to the overall narrative of the Bible. 2 | P a g e I refer to this Narrative as the Meta-Narrative.
