This article is published with open access at Springerlink.com Abstract A comprehensive study on the orchid diversity in Penang Hill, Penang, Malaysia was conducted from 2004 to 2008 with the objective to evaluate the presence of orchid species listed by Curtis (J Strait Br R Asiat Soc 25:67–173, 1894) after more than 100 years. A total of 85 species were identified during this study, of which 52 are epiphytic or lithophytic and 33 are terrestrial orchids. This study identified 57 species or 64.8% were the same as those recorded by Curtis (1894), and 78 species or 66.1% of Turner’s (Gar- dens’ Bull Singap 47(2):599–620, 1995) checklist of 118 species for the state of Penang including 18 species which were not recorded by Curtis (1894) and the current study but are actually collected from Penang Hill. A comparison table of the current findings against Curtis (1894) and Turner (1995) is provided which shows only 56 species were the same in all three studies. The preferred account for comparison was Curtis’ (1894) list as his report was specifically for the areas around Penang Island especially Penang Hill, Georgetown and Ayer Itam areas. -

Warm, dry, windy conditions may increase cross- pollination rates on a variety to variety basis (see also 6 below). -

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk Orchidaceae membandingkan keanekaragaman anggrek (Orchidaceae) Diversity yang terdapat di dalam Griya Anggrek dan yang terdapat di Bogor Botanical Garden luar Griya Anggrek, Kebun Raya Bogor (KRB). Penelitian dilakukan di dua lokasi antara lain di dalam Griya Anggrek yang dibagi menjadi 4 titik sampling dan di luar Griya Anggrek yang dibagi menjadi 3 titik sampling. Setiap titik sampling dibuat 3 plot dengan ukuran 10 m x 10 m. Manfaat dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis perbandingan keanekaragaman Orchidaceae yang terdapat di dalam Griya Anggrek dan sekitarnya pada Kebun Raya Bogor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa di kawasan Kebun Raya Bogor keanekaragaman tumbuhan anggrek yang berada di kawasan Griya Anggrek memiliki keanekaragaman yang lebih tinggi daripada diluar kawasan Griya Anggrek. -

Posee más de 4000 especies de orquídeas dentro de su territorio sin embargo debido al acelerado proceso de deforestación motivado por la tala indiscriminada de bosque primario, la explotación del petróleo, la minería y la utilización del suelo destinado a monocultivos ha ocasionado que se pierda gran parte del hábitat natural de estas plantas y por ende la desaparición de un importante número de especies en estado natural. Las orquídeas no se propagan con mayor facilidad en condiciones naturales, es debido a esto que durante muchos años quienes las poseían fueron coleccionistas y científicos en general. -

Among them, all species were used as ornamental plants; 13 species were used for medicinal herbs; and 6 species were listed for conservation in Vietnam Red Data Book, (2019). Fresh samples are processed and photographed in the field, then have brought back to plant and take care of the garden of Thu Dau Mot University. The life forms of orchids were divided into groups including: (1) epiphytes with 144 species, (2) terrestrials with 26 species, (3) saprophytes with 1 species, (4) lithophytes with 2 species. Hybrids of Dendrobium nobile Lindl. have high potential to become a high-value pot plant, but detailed research to support the development of commercial production protocols was lacking. A 3 · 5 factorial experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of nutrient termination date (1 Aug., 1 Sept., or 1 Oct.) and nutrient reapplication time (at the beginning or in the middle of cooling, immediately after or 2 weeks after the completion of cooling, or no nutrient reapplication) on growth and flower development of Dendrobium Sea Mary ‘Snow King,’ a D. nobile hybrid. Interaction between nutrient termination date and reapplication time on growth and flowering was nonsignificant for all variables measured, and reapplication time had only a minor effect on leaves remaining. -

Sulawesi is the fourth largest island in Indonesia. It is also a unique island, possessing very high biodiversity due to its location in the Wallacea area, and having combined plants from both Asia and Australia. An inventory of orchids in Polewali Mandar District was conducted from 25 May to 13 June 2014 to assess the orchid diversity in the area. Orchid specimens were collected by using explorative method. A total of 60 accession numbers were collected in the study area. These collections represent 22 genera and 51 species, consisting of 41 epiphytic orchids and 10 terrestrial orchids. Some species are widely distributed in Indonesia, but few species are found only in eastern part of Indonesia such as Wallacea region, and are even endemic to Sulawesi. Luisia celebica Schltr. and Micropera sterrophylla (Schltr.) Garay are noted as endemic to Sulawesi, while Dendrobium bicaudatum Reinw. ex Lindl., Habenaria beccarii Schltr., Malaxis trigonopetala (J.J.Sm.) S.Thomas, Schuit. & de Vogel and Pinalia quinquangularis (J.J.Sm.) Ormerod are endemic to the Wallacea region, mainly Sulawesi and Moluccas. -
