LARRY NELSON: A TENACIOUS BUILDER

A Moncton native, Larry Nelson’s first job out of high school was Office Clerk in Lounsbury’s Motor Branch. Over the next 45 years he climbed the corporate ladder and in 1994 he took on the role of President & CEO of the Lounsbury Group of Companies – one of ’s oldest businesses.

Larry faced a variety of business challenges through the years, but perhaps the largest was when General Motors decided to remove a number of dealerships from the North American landscape. Lounsbury was at the time a General Motors-only dealer, and was impacted by the cutbacks. However, Larry’s ability to build relationships and trust with suppliers, financial institutions and employees helped the business not simply survive but to grow and prosper as it diversified.

Today the Lounsbury Group of Companies includes three retail furniture stores, five General Motors automotive dealerships, a BMW dealership, a Volkswagen and Audi dealership, a Ford dealership, two Volvo heavy duty truck franchises and Lounsbury Leasing Limited, all located in New Brunswick. Lounsbury is an employee-owned company, with more than 400 New Brunswickers employed in its many businesses.

Larry is dedicated to the community, chairing and volunteering on a wide variety of boards. He was inducted into the Order of Canada in 2011, and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. 2 015 2 015
