Email: [email protected] Abstract: One of the most important megalithic groups in Western Europe in terms of number and characteristics is the group of over 200 monuments of various types in Sardinia. It now seems to be confirmed that the rise of the megalithic phenomenon was during the culture of San Michele of Ozieri (Late Neolithic, 4000-3300 B.C.E.). The Sardinian dolmen graves, however, had a maximum distribution during the Chalcolithic, as evidenced by most of the finds from excavations. The phenomenon also shows a close relationship beyond Sardinia and especially with the monuments of Catalonia, Pyrenees, non-coastal departments of French-midi, Corsica and Puglia. About 90 dolmen graves of various types have been investigated, namely the simple type, “corridor” type, “allée couverte” type, and others of uncertain attribution, located in central-western Sardinia, and particularly in a significant area of ca. 3500 km2 coinciding with the historical regions of Marghine-Planargia, Middle Valley of Tirso and Montiferru. This includes some 40% of all Sardinian dolmens. Locational trends and relationships with regard to landscape elements were studied with the aid of GIS methodologies such as viewshed and cost surface analysis.

In compenso la giornata festivaliera offrirà diverse altre occasioni di ascolto: la Misa Criolla eseguita dal Coro e Orchestra di Vicenza alla Chiesa di Santa Corona (ore 11); il sorprendente duo percussivo formato da Pasquale Mirra (vibrafono, marimba, percussioni) e Hamid Drake (batteria, percussioni, voce) al Giardino del Teatro Olimpico (ore 16); la più pura tradizione hard bop ai Chiostri di Santa Corona (ore 18) con il trombettista Flavio Boltro e i suoi “Friends”, ovvero Luca Mannutza al pianoforte, Lorenzo Conte al contrabbasso e Andrea Michelutti alla batteria. Il festival New Conversations – Vicenza Jazz 2021 è promosso dal Comune di Vicenza in collaborazione con la Fondazione Teatro Comunale Città di Vicenza, in coproduzione con Trivellato Mercedes Benz. Acqua Recoaro è sponsor tecnico del festival. Flavio Boltro, nato a Torino nel 1961, si è rapidamente imposto come tromba di riferimento del jazz italiano: negli anni Ottanta suona nei Lingomania di Maurizio Giammarco e si esibisce con Steve Grossman, Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins, Clifford Jordan, Jimmy Cobb, Manhu Roche, Joe Lovano, Freddie Hubbard.

Middle-eastern rhythm and tone, topped with the irrepressible Johnny Griffin on tenor sax. An interesting piece of hybrid music. Casey Dean of the School of Music Of Note: 2009-2010 Highlights 4-5 Dear Friend of our School of Music, Faculty News 6-9 It has taken us 98 years to get here. Ninety-eight years to have built the strength and New Faculty Members reputation of the DePaul School of Music to where it can confidently stand toe-to-toe Applause with the most celebrated schools in the country, and yet we believe that our best years Community Music Division are still to come. Master Classes This past year has been wonderful in almost every way, including hundreds of exciting performances, some stellar recordings, several noteworthy collaborations, and a vast and Student News 10-11 impressive array of student accomplishment in virtually every program. We hope you’ll Honorary Degree Recipient, Samuel Magad come to campus often to hear for yourself the music that we are making here. Our School remains a very special place—one that is at once ambitious and humane—and as we strive Class Notes 12-13 to serve every student to the best of their and our ability, we also hope to make you, our alumni and patrons, proud of what we are creating here. Advancement Report 14-15 On the near horizon are two milestones. First, we’ll be celebrating our centennial in 2009-10 2012-2013 with a grand array of commissions and special events culminating in a jubilee 2010 Spring Concert & Gala 16-17 performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and the world premiere of a new orchestral overture by Augusta Read Thomas in Orchestra Hall in May of 2013.

    Discography of the Prestige Labels Robert S. Weinstock started the New Jazz label in 1949 in New York City. The Prestige label was started shortly afterwards. Originaly the labels were located at 446 West 50th Street, in 1950 the company was moved to 782 Eighth Avenue. Prestige made a couple more moves in New York City but by 1958 it was located at its more familiar address of 203 South Washington Avenue in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Prestige recorded jazz, folk and rhythm and blues. The New Jazz label issued jazz and was used for a few 10 inch album releases in 1954 and then again for as series of 12 inch albums starting in 1958 and continuing until 1964. The artists on New Jazz were interchangeable with those on the Prestige label and after 1964 the New Jazz label name was dropped. Early on, Weinstock used various New York City recording studios including Nola and Beltone, but he soon started using the Rudy van Gelder studio in Hackensack New Jersey almost exclusively. Rudy van Gelder moved his studio to Englewood Cliffs New Jersey in 1959, which was close to the Prestige office in Bergenfield. Producers for the label, in addition to Weinstock, were Chris Albertson, Ozzie Cadena, Esmond Edwards, Ira Gitler, Cal Lampley Bob Porter and Don Schlitten. Rudy van Gelder engineered most of the Prestige recordings of the 1950’s and 60’s. The line-up of jazz artists on Prestige was impressive, including Gene Ammons, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy, Booker Ervin, Art Farmer, Red Garland, Wardell Gray, Richard “Groove” Holmes, Milt Jackson and the Modern Jazz Quartet, “Brother” Jack McDuff, Jackie McLean, Thelonious Monk, Don Patterson, Sonny Rollins, Shirley Scott, Sonny Stitt and Mal Waldron.
