CHARACTER CREATION DaiMon Barx stopped counting. He sniffed the air. Something was burning. Reluctantly tearing his eyes away from his stacked and sparkling piles of gold- pressed latinum slips, he rose, sniffing about the room for the source of the smell. A high-pitched noise assaulted his fine- tuned ears. It was coming from behind the door. The door was a meter-thick slab of duranium with the most complex force locks money could buy—and it was the thing that was burning. A pinprick of light appeared near the handle and began working its way upward and around, tracing the shape of the door with a burnt line. Barx dashed for his crate to fill it as fast as he could with lat- inum slips. He’d have only seconds before the phaser burned through the door and its owner kicked the slab in. Sealing the crate, he engaged its hover- field and dragged it through the air behind him, running to the picture of the Grand Nagus on the wall. He punched the image of the Nagus in the nose and a hidden door slid open beneath the picture. He bent down and pushed the crate through ahead of him, squeezing in after it just as the main door fell from its hinges and a voice yelled: “Ferengi! Where’s my money?” Barx, his finger almost on the stud to seal the door behind him, frowned. He couldn’t resist yelling back at the intruder: “It was a fair deal! The Chazon Passage is prime property!” “But it’s already owned by the Klingon Colonial Command!” the dis- gruntled colonist yelled, aiming his phaser at the Ferengi he could now see crouched in a small passageway.

  • Bajoran Language
Bajoran Language All Bajoran written languages are based on a series of ideograms; even copies of the Bajoran texts found at ancient archaeological sites share certain root ideograms. Bajoran ideogrammatic symbols are vaguely square shaped, and feature a series of complex, interconnecting swirls. In times past, the symbols were rectangular; modern Bajoran script breaks down words into their components more frequently, thus two modern symbols often correlate to a single ancient word. Bajoran spoken language also consists of many small words for simple concepts, which can combine to produce words representing more complex ideas. There are 25 basic Bajoran language symbols, which form the foundation of all ideograms. Each symbol can be used in any of eight rotations (flipped and rotated each and every way). Bajoran tends to be written in horizontal lines, although it can be written vertically. In the Bajoran alphabet, the analogue of “C” is the fourth letter, the analogue of “E” the seventh. List of Words and Language Components Edit A: Prefix signifying definite article “the”, as in a prime or model example. Aclim: An era of history. Alva: A yellow fruit. The syllabic component “va” translates to “source”, and is found in the names of other foods like Veklava and Kava. Amojan: “The Evil One” (From “A”- “the”, “Mo”- “one”, and “Jan”- “Evil”). Amoran: “The Banishment"”(From “A”- “the”, and “Moran”- “Banishment", itself derived from the syllabic roots for “one” and “aftermath”- essentially, to have become "one", cut off from others). Ara/Arra: “Place”, usually in a spiritual or figurative sense rather than denoting literal location, although as the Bajoran proverb teaches, “the land and the people are one”.

  • Eaglemoss Starship Comparison Chart
Massive Scale Comparison Chart Size Analysis for Ships of Scale 6 to 17 These are the ships depicted in the Massive Eaglemoss picture (posted on the Wixiban website as of March 2021). They are listed in rough order by size from smallest to largest. High Scale ships that are included in this list for comparison but were not included in the Eaglemoss Massive picture are noted where appropriate. My rough sense of Scale is as follows: Ship Length Scale 0 to 20 meters 1 20 to 100 meters 2 100 to 240 meters 3 240 to 400 meters 4 400 to 600 meters 5 600 to 800 meters 6 800 to 1400 meters 7 1400 to ~1800 meters 8 More than 1800 meters 9+ Keep in mind, these are NOT exact numbers! (Y’know, obviously.) I had to eyeball each and every ship in the picture and decide if they had sufficient mass to qualify as a particular Scale or another. For these massive scale ships, anything Scale 9 or higher is somewhat subjective and includes more judgment calls than normal. See the Middle Scale Federation Comparison Chart document for a more thorough explanation on this. Galaxy-class Husnock Warship Scale 6 Scale 8 641m in length 1,300m in length Watchtower-class Starbase Roughly the same length as a Scale 7 D’deridex, but is at least twice the mass, so Not in any of the Eaglemoss Pictures but included Scale 8. for comparison. Scale 7 849m in diameter (unofficial) Jem’Hadar Battleship Scale 8 Romulan D’deridex Warbird 1,500m in length Scale 7 Scale 8 because this thing is at least as 1,353m in length massive as DS9.

  • Racial Issues and Star Trek's Deep Space Nine
Racial Issues and Star Trek’s Deep Space Nine By J. Emmett Winn Spring 2003 Issue of KINEMA HIGHLY OFFENSIVE FERENGI: RACIAL ISSUES AND STAR TREK’S MULTICUL- TURAL DEEP SPACE NINE STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE is the third official Star Trek series based on the ideas of the late Gene Roddenberry. The popularity of the Star Trek series has earned them an honoured place in America’s popular culture.(1) Likewise, scholarly attention to Star Trek points to its importance to the study of media culture.(2) Star Trek, even before its broadcast of television’s first interracial kiss, has always had two missions. The first, its entertainment mission as part of the television industry, is the well known: ”Its five yearmissionis to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man [sic] has gone before.”(3) Deep Space Nine’s creators, Berman and Pillar, state the second is the less publicly articulated mission of addressing matters of socio-cultural concern. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is very successful in syndication and with Star Trek fans.(4) DS9 assembles the most racially and ethnically diverse group of all the preceding Star Treks. The most prominent difference is that the lead character, Captain Benjamin Sisko, is played by African-American actor Avery Brooks. Brooks is the first (and so far the last) Black actor to play the lead role inany Star Trek series or film. Equally important, the basic plot of DS9 (throughout its seven year run, 1993-2000) revolves around the problems associated with different ”races” of peoples living together in an hostile environment.

Lopez, Pletcher, Williams & Zehner – Volume 11, Issue 1 (2017) e-Journal of Business Education & Scholarship of Teaching Vol. 11, No. 1, 2017, pp: 19-56. ”http://www.ejbest.org” Ferengi business practices in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - to enhance student engagement and teach a wide range of business concepts Katherine J. Lopez The Bill Munday School of Business St. Edward’s University Austin, TX, United States of America [email protected] Gary Pletcher The Bill Munday School of Business St. Edward’s University Craig L. Williams The Bill Munday School of Business St. Edward’s University William Bradley Zehner II The Bill Munday School of Business St. Edward’s University Abstract The purpose of this article is to provide examples of business concepts appearing in science fiction, offering accounting and business educators a means to engage students and allow students to make connections with business concepts outside of the strict business realm, resulting in increased long-term learning. To accomplish this, The Star Trek series Deep Space Nine (Berman, et al., 1993-1999) was examined, and instances of business concepts located in the series were documented and presented in table format. This paper adds value by providing educators with a database of examples to help students learn business concepts. This article identifies specific accounting, business, and economic concepts illustrated by the Ferengi Traders in Star Trek – Deep Space Nine, as well as explores the educational theory behind why students are more likely to engage in learning by relating the new to the familiar. Keywords: science fiction; memory recall; video learning; business education, accounting and business curriculum.
