POSTSEASON The American Championship Clearwater, Fla. THAD BRINGS THE THUNDER NCAA Regional • Thad Ward garnered his second straight honor from The American this week with an apperance on the Weekly Honor Roll. • The junior tossed six shutout innings in relief without allowing a hit and striking out eight in the series opener against OU. NCAA Super Regional • The righty has been a go-to out of the bullpen with an ERA of 1.56 and 49 punchouts in 34 2/3 innings of relief work. NCAA World Series Omaha, Neb. • Ward is averaging 1.41 strikeouts per inning. GOING TO THE PEN • The UCF bullpen has had one of the best season in the last 20 years with an ERA of 2.87 and 271 strikeouts. • Opponents are hitting just .199 off the Knights relievers this season. A WIN WOULD • The Black and Gold can have its first back-to-back seasons with sub-3.0 ERA out of the bullpen in program history. • Be better than a loss. • The Knights are six strikeouts from totaling the most bullpen punchouts in the last 20 years. • Keep the Knights perfect in weekend series openers in 2018. HOT HITTING • Along with Thomas, Tyler Osik and Ray Alejo are also hitting above .300 with slugging clips of .503 and .401, respectively. A SWEEP WOULD • Dallas Beaver is hitting a team-high .317 with 11 RBI and two home runs over the last 15 games. • Matthew Mika and Thomas have notched team-high nine-game hitting streaks this season. • Be better than being swept. • Osik’s next home run will gave the Knights their first two double-figure home run hitters in a campaign since 2015. • Tie the series up at 23-23.     Minutes Board of Trustees Meeting University of Central Florida March 16, 2017 Chairman Marcos Marchena called the meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 1:00 p.m. in the FAIRWINDS Alumni Center on the UCF Orlando campus. Marchena reminded the board that the meeting was covered by the Florida Sunshine Law and that the public and press were invited to attend. WELCOME Marchena welcomed the board members and called on Rick Schell, Associate Corporate Secretary, to call the roll. Schell determined that a quorum was present. The following board members attended the meeting: Chairman Marcos Marchena, Vice Chair Robert Garvy, Ken Bradley, Clarence Brown, Joseph Conte, Ray Gilley, Keith Koons, Beverly Seay, David Walsh, and William Yeargin. Trustees Alex Martins and John Sprouls attended via teleconference. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no requests for public comment. MINUTES Marchena called for approval of the January 13, 2017; February 15, 2017; and February 24, 2017; meeting minutes, which were approved. Marchena indicated that President John C. Hitt was not feeling well and that A. Dale Whittaker, Provost and Executive Vice President, would give his report. Marchena called on Whittaker for remarks and introductions. REMARKS Whittaker thanked Trustee Garvy and his family for their generous gift to create the Garvy Center for Student-Athlete Nutrition. Whittaker announced that marketing has begun for Legacy Pointe at UCF, the university’s retirement community planned for the McCulloch and Old Lockwood Roads area. This plan identifies projects that will be included in the three-year Public Education Capital Outlay list, and it provides information to the State Board of Education for its request for capital project funding for 2017-18. The capital improvement plan must be submitted to the Board of Governors’ staff by August 1, 2016. The attached schedules include the following: • projects that are proposed for inclusion in the five-year capital improvement plan • items to be included in the 2017-18 Appropriations Authorization Bill, including projects funded by bonds, direct support organization projects, and projects requiring general revenue to operate. We request approval to submit the 2017-18 Capital Improvement Plan with the projects listed in the attached schedules.
