POSTSEASON The American Championship Clearwater, Fla. THAD BRINGS THE THUNDER NCAA Regional • Thad Ward garnered his second straight honor from The American this week with an apperance on the Weekly Honor Roll. • The junior tossed six shutout innings in relief without allowing a hit and striking out eight in the series opener against OU. NCAA Super Regional • The righty has been a go-to out of the bullpen with an ERA of 1.56 and 49 punchouts in 34 2/3 innings of relief work. NCAA World Series Omaha, Neb. • Ward is averaging 1.41 strikeouts per inning. GOING TO THE PEN • The UCF bullpen has had one of the best season in the last 20 years with an ERA of 2.87 and 271 strikeouts. • Opponents are hitting just .199 off the Knights relievers this season. A WIN WOULD • The Black and Gold can have its first back-to-back seasons with sub-3.0 ERA out of the bullpen in program history. • Be better than a loss. • The Knights are six strikeouts from totaling the most bullpen punchouts in the last 20 years. • Keep the Knights perfect in weekend series openers in 2018. HOT HITTING • Along with Thomas, Tyler Osik and Ray Alejo are also hitting above .300 with slugging clips of .503 and .401, respectively. A SWEEP WOULD • Dallas Beaver is hitting a team-high .317 with 11 RBI and two home runs over the last 15 games. • Matthew Mika and Thomas have notched team-high nine-game hitting streaks this season. • Be better than being swept. • Osik’s next home run will gave the Knights their first two double-figure home run hitters in a campaign since 2015. • Tie the series up at 23-23.
