Most Reverend Gerald T. Walsh
The Most Rev. Gerald T. Walsh was born on April 25, 1942 in New York City. He attended Good Shepherd Elementary School in New York City, St. Charles High School in Baltimore, and graduated in the Class of 1959 from Power Memorial Academy, New York City. Bishop Walsh attended Iona College in New Rochelle in 1959, and in 1961 entered St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, New York. In 1963, he earned a BA in Philosophy and a Masters of Divinity from St. Joseph’s Seminary in 1967. During the summers of 1966 and 1967, he studied at the Institute for Intercultural Communication at the Catholic University in Ponce, Puerto Rico. On May 27, 1967, Francis Cardinal Spellman ordained him to the priesthood at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick in New York City. Following his ordination, Bishop Walsh was assigned as Parochial Vicar of Holy Trinity Church in New York City. He held several part-time assignments with the Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, the Ladies of Charity, and the New York Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. In 1980, he joined the staff of Catholic Charities as the Director of Family and Children’s Services. Bishop Walsh received a Masters degree in social work from Fordham University in 1983. In 1989, Bishop Walsh was named Pastor of the Church of the Incarnation. He is presently a member of the Priest Council as well as the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of New York. In 1990, Bishop Walsh was named a Prelate of Honor to His Holiness and in 1996, John Cardinal O’Connor appointed him to serve as Secretary to the Cardinal. -

College Board’s AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award recognizes schools that are closing the gender gap and engaging more female students in computer science coursework in AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) and AP Computer Science A (AP CSA). Specifically, College Board is honoring schools who reached 50% or higher female representation in either of the two AP computer science courses in 2018, or whose percentage of the female examinees met or exceeded that of the school's female population in 2018. Out of more than 18,000 secondary schools worldwide that offer AP courses, only 685 have achieved this important result. But it will. It’s inevitable. I’ve already seen the blooms on Sr. Sally Norcross, CND Lthe now-frozen trees and the crocuses under the snow. I can feel that springtime energy Sr. Teresa Barton, CND getting ready to break out in a riot of blooms and so many different shades of green. Gradually declining enrollment necessitated Ms. Helen Cannistraci creative thinking. Our winter gave us time to refine our mission to better support the reality of today’s families and respond to the needs of today’s students. REPORT NSF GRANT #PHY-98143318 Title: The Distribution of an Illustrated Timeline Wall Chart and Teacher’s Guide of 20fhCentury Physics DOE Patent Clearance Granted December 26,2000 Principal Investigator, Brian Schwartz, The American Physical Society 1 Physics Ellipse College Park, MD 20740 301-209-3223 [email protected] BACKGROUND The American Physi a1 Society s part of its centennial celebration in March of 1999 decided to develop a timeline wall chart on the history of 20thcentury physics. This resulted in eleven consecutive posters, which when mounted side by side, create a %foot mural. The timeline exhibits and describes the millstones of physics in images and words. The timeline functions as a chronology, a work of art, a permanent open textbook, and a gigantic photo album covering a hundred years in the life of the community of physicists and the existence of the American Physical Society . Each of the eleven posters begins with a brief essay that places a major scientific achievement of the decade in its historical context. Large portraits of the essays’ subjects include youthful photographs of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and Richard Feynman among others, to help put a face on science. Below the essays, a total of over 130 individual discoveries and inventions, explained in dated text boxes with accompanying images, form the backbone of the timeline. For ease of comprehension, this wealth of material is organized into five color- coded story lines the stretch horizontally across the hundred years of the 20th century. I hope that energy takes you out on the trails to let the crisp clean air and the muffled silence of winter renew your spirits in the New Year. As you head out, have some fun looking for a few points of interest you may not have noticed in your wanderings. Seek out the mural honoring the Gandy Dancers, workers who historically maintained the original railroad tracks for the Soo Line. The stone bridge on Brown’s Creek Trail was constructed in the 1860s as part of a military road for troops heading off to serve in the Civil War. The 45th parallel, marking the halfway point between the North Pole and the Equator, crosses the trail near Flicek Park in Maplewood, connecting you at that moment to cities in France, Croatia, Mongolia and Japan, before circling back to the States through Oregon. Learn a little more about wetlands at the North St. Paul Urban Ecology Center, a 24-acre wetland restoration project, northwest of the intersection of McKnight Rd N. and South Avenue E. Pause on the Iron Bridge over Manning Ave. Built in 1873, it was originally located in Sauk Centre, MN, and was moved to various locations before becoming a permanent part of the Gateway route. -
