Transpower owns and operates the National Grid, and its assets across the Wellington Region include 12 substations, 25 transmission lines, three submarine cables, four high voltage direct current links, five overhead fibre cables, and seven communications sites. 2 Transpower made a submission and further submission on the Proposed Plan. 3 Transpower is not a trade competitor for the purposes of section 308D of the Resource Management Act 1991 (‘RMA’). 4 Transpower received notice of the decisions on 31 July 2019. 5 The decisions were made by the Respondent. Provisions being appealed 6 The part of the decision that Transpower is appealing is the Respondent’s decisions on the Proposed Plan that relate to regionally significant infrastructure, and in particular the operation, maintenance, upgrading and development of the National Grid. -
Wellington Network Upgrade
WELLINGTON NETWORK UPGRADE Better rail services for the region. Around 500,000 Wellingtonians and visitors take over 14 million passenger journeys each year on our Metro Rail Network. KiwiRail, Greater Wellington Regional Council and Metlink are working together to modernise the rail, thanks to investment of almost $300 million from the Government to enable: Train services to be more reliable. More people and freight travelling on rail in the future. The Wellington Metro Upgrade Programme is being delivered on a busy, well-maintained but ageing network where trains run 18 hours a day. The focus of our work is: Renewing existing network infrastructure to improve rail services. Renewing traction power overhead line system and signals power supply, and improving the track across the network including inside the four major tunnels. Adding capacity to the network so more people can travel on trains in the future while still allowing for freight services. This includes: Double tracking between Trentham and Upper Hutt. Improvements to Wellington station approaches. Changes at Plimmerton. More information www.kiwirail.co.nz (Wellington Metro Upgrade) HUTT LINE DOUBLE TRACKING More frequent, reliable trains. The 2.7 kilometres of rail line between Trentham and Upper Hutt is being double tracked so trains can travel in both directions at the same time. This will allow more frequent and reliable services along this section of the busy line from Wellington to Upper Hutt and Wairarapa. Stations are being upgraded and we are making it safer around our tracks. WELLINGTON REGIONAL RAIL STRATEGIC DIRECTION 2020 Where we’ve come from Rail has been a key component of the Wellington Region’s transport network for more than 150 years. The first rail line was built in the 1870s between Wellington and Wairarapa. What is now known as the North Island Main Trunk followed in the 1880s, providing a more direct route to Manawatū and the north. Two branch lines were later added. The region has grown around the rail network, as villages have turned into towns and cities. Much of it was actively built around rail as transit-oriented development. Rail has become an increasingly important way for people to move about, particularly to Wellington’s CBD, and services and infrastructure have been continuously expanded and improved to serve an ever-growing population. The region is a leader in per capita use of public transport. INTRODUCTION The village of Plimmerton is a northern suburb of Porirua, and is surrounded to the North and East by farmland. It represents the edge of existing residential dwellings. Generally existing homes are stand-alone dwellings on lots greater than 500m² in size. Most residents within Plimmerton and Camborne either commute into Wellington city or work from home. The demand for housing in this area is from professional couples or families looking for 3 – 4 bedroom family homes on a section with space for kids to run around in, not medium or high density three-storey buildings and apartments, this is reflected in the TPG report to PCC (Dec 2019). Medium density style townhouses, or apartments would be totally out of character of the surrounding residential areas, and would present a stark contrast to the remaining rural areas which bound the site. The Plimmerton Farm site is not located close to areas of high employment, nor is it close to local amenities like the main shopping areas of Porirua. The site is also not located within an area currently supported by existing infrastructure. Much of the infrastructure in the area is aging, and requires repair or upgrade to support existing demands. Therefore, the idea that Plimmerton Farm would provide homes in a location close to employment, amenities and infrastructure1 is simply incorrect in terms of a 10-year time frame. Areas where this would be true include the currently developing areas of Aotea, Whitby, Kenepuru, and Porirua East. -

Inc. or email [email protected] The Broderick family of Glenside By Diana Flatman nee Broderick, 2020 Introduction This is the story of Creasey and Sarah Ann Broderick, who migrated to New Zealand in 1843 and lived at the Halfway/Glenside from 1845. Their Broderick descendants farmed in Glenside until 1968. Broderick Road in Johnsonville is named for Creasey and Sarah Ann Broderick and the Broderick Inn, which opened on 8 December 1973, was named for its location on Broderick Road. Creasey Broderick (c1810-1884) and Sarah Ann Broderick nee Walters (1806-1888) Photo held: Diana Flatman Collection Page 1 of 27 Background My great great grandfather Creasey Broderick was christened in Boston, Lincolnshire, England on 26 July 1810. He was one of six (perhaps more) children born to John and Mary Ann Broderick (nee Bagshaw). John was a clock and watchmaker in Boston, Lincolnshire, following in the profession of his parents Jessie Creassy Broderick and Elizabeth (nee King). My great great grandfather Creasey became a tailor by profession and worked in London. He married Sarah Ann Walters in St Mary’s Church, Lambeth, Surrey on 24 June, 1827. They set up home in London, mainly in the East End. Five of their seven children were born in London and christened in St Leonard’s Church, Shoreditch. London. The sixth child, Selina, was born in New Zealand and their seventh child was born in Australia. -

THE STRATEGIC NATURE OF THE WELLINGTON REGIONAL LAND TRANSPORT STRATEGY 2007-2016 by Patrick Farrell Thesis ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES 593 [2008] A 90 point thesis submitted to Victoria University of Wellington, As partial fulfilment of requirements for the degree of Master of Environmental Studies School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences Victoria University of Wellington [March 2008] i THE STRATEGIC NATURE OF THE WELLINGTON REGIONAL LAND TRANSPORT STRATEGY 2007-2016 Patrick Farrell ABSTRACT The purpose of the RLTS is to guide the region’s transport spending over the next ten years. This study seeks to determine how strategic it is in terms of key environmental, economic and social outcomes: amenity and amenity access, air quality, accessibility, and low-income groups’ transport affordability. Strategic is defined as how well the RLTS will function under potential future circumstances and its internal coherency and consistency. The resilience and adaptability of the RLTS to that range of potential futures is also analysed. The RLTS’ priority is increasing regional accessibility, however due to 20+ years of underinvestment in the PT infrastructure, especially rail, targets set towards that goal are limited. Amenity and air quality are both considered to not require much intervention, but amenity services would be more adequately served if they were considered on par with air quality. Transport affordability to the community and users, especially low-income groups, was not given warranted attention. Therefore, four out of five of the outcomes appear to be well balanced. The RLTS objectives and outcomes are rather resilient, while the implementation plans are adequately adaptable with annual monitoring reports and final decisions which are also made on an annual basis. -
