The year 2017 started with the celebration of 50th foundation day on 3rd January, 2017. Hon‟ble Minister Higher Education, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy graced the 50th Foundation Day Ceremony as the Chief Guest. Hon‟ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) (Sambalpur) Mr. Nagendra Kumar Pradhan, and Hon‟ble Member of Legislative Assembly (Sambalpur), Prof.(Dr.) RaseswariPanigrahi, graced this ceremony as Guests of Honour. Noted Hindi poet Sri LeeladharJagori was honoured with the prestigious Gangadhar National Award for Poetry-2015 for his creativity and attainment in poetry. The faculty members, officers and other employees who retired in the year 2016 were also felicitated on this occasion. Sri. D.V. Swamy IAS, RDC Northern zone, assumed the charge of office of the Vice- Chancellor on 10.11.2017, consequent upon the completion of the tenure of Prof. C.R. Tripathy. Professor S.K. Sahu assumed the charge of the office of the Registrar on 30.04.2017 consequent upon the transfer of Dr. M. Muthukumar IAS. Dr.(Mrs.) Soorya Thankppan IPS assumed the charge as Registrar on 16.11.2017. It is a cluster university, having 223 affiliated colleges spread over ten and a half districts of Western Odisha. Since syllabus revision is a key factor in the academic growth of an institution, Sambalpur University has overhauled and updated the undergraduate syllabi under the much needed CBCS system. The Postgraduate Departments on the Jyoti Vihar campus, for their part, have also been restructuring and improving their course contents from time to time in order to catch up with advancements in various sectors of human knowledge. Sambalpur University has expanded its academic range over the years to 24 Postgraduate Departments in 41 subjects, and running self-financing programmes in 12 subjects. In 2017, 57 PhD degrees were awarded and 354 scientific articles were published. Through self-financing or Distance Education mode, the University also offers different courses like Computer Sciences, Bio-Technology, Bio- Informatics, Executive MBA, Finance and Control, Environmental Science and Engineering, Geospatial Technology, Nanotechnology, Social Works, Journalism, 8 Food Science and Nutrition, Translation Studies etc. A five-year integrated BBA-LLB course and P.G. Diploma in IRPM on self-financing scheme is offered by Lajpat Rai Law College, Sambalpur, a constituent college of the University. The Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT) another constituent college of the University has been offering quality education and research in the field of Information Technology and Engineering. In the session 2017-18, out of total 182 admissions into different programmes of SUIIT, 85 students were admitted through Odisha JEE into B.Tech programme. Three new departments namely Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology and Social Works were opened during 2017 and two new departments namely Education and Sanskrit have been approved by the Syndicate to be opened from 2018. Three years Integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. has already received approval of NCTE to start from the 2018-19 Session. M.Phil. programme in Hindi started from session 2017. Department of Business Administration introduced a new course MBA in Agri Business to be run in participation with OUAT, Chiplima. It is also proposed to open a Centre for Foreign Languages with Chinese Language to begin with. The excellence of the University has been recognized through the accreditation of A-Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for the assessment period 2010-2015. Departmental Research Support (DRS) status is given to three departments by the UGC and Fund for Improvement of Science & Technology (FIST) status to four departments by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India. The School of Chemistry has reached level-II of DST-FIST research programme. The school received Rs.3.10 crore during 2013- 2018 under DRS (UGC). Four research projects of Rs.30 lakhs are successfully progressing under the supervision of faculty members of the School. One research project of Rs.1.17 crore has been sanctioned by DST to be jointly carried out with LMNIT. Rs.0.9 crore has been sanctioned to the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics under the twinning project sanctioned by Department of Bio Technology (DBT), New Delhi. The School of Life Science has undertaken research projects sanctioned by DST (Government of Odisha) and consultancy projects from Vedanta Limited. The Department of Environmental Science has undertaken research projects sanctioned by University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi and consultancy projects by Vedanta Limited and Mahanadi Coal Fields Limited 9 (MCL). The Department of Physics has undertaken research project sponsored by Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST-Govt. of India. The Department of Odia has completed a UGC sponsored project and the Department of Anthropology has undertaken a project sponsored by Government of Odisha. One project funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi is running in the Department of Library and Information Science. One research project funded by DST-SERB and another by Media Lab Asia are running in SUIIT. The Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics signed a MOU with Science Foundation for Tribal and Rural Resource Development (SFTRRD), Bhubaneswar for Collaborative Research in Medicinal Plant and Product Development for Therapeutic application. The Department of Computer Science and Applications has signed an MOU with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Pune for development of Advanced Computing Centre and installation of Super Computer

    Title of the Project:” Risk Reduction and Livelihood Promotion in Western Orissa”: A Consortium Initiative estern Orissa is the home to W situation of more chronically food insecurity than any other region in the state of Orissa. Visiting of droughts and flash floods are recurrent and common phenomena in Western Orissa. It is estimated that around two- third of the total population in this region face the problems of food insecurity for around nine months, as a result migration to towns and cities in search of livelihood is rampant. Departments 1857 to drive them out from the Indian soil. He was hanged un to death on 31 st Census December 1858. The Government of Orissa in I & P R Department are celebrating Telephone Directory this day as Veerata Divas at State level. Madho Singh was joined in this struggle by Red Cross (IRCS) his four sons named Hate Singh, Kunjal Singh, Bairi Singh and Airi Singh who had also to sacrifice their lives for the same cause. His son-in-law named Narayan Singh People Representatives also had to meet the same fate for the same cause. It is a rare example in the DRDA Activities history of the Freedom Struggle of the country when an entire family of the father, ZP / Panchayat Samiti all the four sons and the only son-in-law has sacrificed their lives for the cause of DISC the freedom of the motherland. However, the history of Indian Freedom Struggle has failed to record the heroic deeds of and the great sacrifice made by these OMGI martyrs. MPLAD/MLALAD When Veer Surendra Sai arrived at Sambalpur in October 1857, consequent NREGA on the breaking open of the Hajaribagh Jail by the revolutionaries, he was joined by ROR View (e-Bhulekh) Madho Singh and others in this great struggle.

TRIPATHI of- the Indian Administrative Service Director Df Census Operations, Orissa CENSUS OF INDIA, 1971 DISTRICT CENSUS HA-NDBOOK PART A-TOWN AND VILLAGE DIRECTORY BOLA_NGIR PREFACE The District Census Handbook first introduced.as an ancillary to 1951 Census appeared as a State. Government publication in a more elaborate and ambitious form in 1961 Census. It was divided into 3 parts: Part] gave a narrative account of each District; Part 1I contained various Census Tables and a ~eries of Primary Census data relating to each village and town ; and Part III presented certain administrative statistics obtained from Government Departments. These parts further enriched by inclusion of maps of the district and of police stations within the district were together -brought out in ODe volume. The Handbook, for each one of the 13 Districts of the State was acknowledged to be highly useful. 2. But the purpose and utility of this valuable compilation somewhat suffered on account of the time lag that intervened between the conclusion of Census and the publication of the Handbook. The delay was unavoidable in the sense that the Handbook-complete with all the constituent parts brought together in one volume had necessarily<to wait till after completion of the processing and tabulation of Gensus data and collection and compilation of a large array of administrative and other statistics. 3. With the object of cutting out the delay, and also_ to making each volume handy and not-too-bulky it has been decided to bring out the 1971 District Census Handbook in three parts separately with the data becoming available from stage to stage as briefly indicated below : Part A-This part will incorporate the Town Directory and the Village Directory for each district.

    MINUTES OF THE 55th MEETING OF THE STATE GEOLOGICAL PROGRAMMING BOARD HELD ON 8TH AUGUST 2019 AT BHUBANESWAR 55.01.00 The 55th meeting of the State Geological Programming Board (SGPB) was organized under the chairmanship of Sri R. K. Sharma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Odisha, Steel & Mines Department on 8th August 2019 in the Convention Hall of Hotel Mayfair, Bhubaneswar. The list of the participants is enclosed as ANNEXURE-I. 55.02.00 WELCOME ADDRESS BY THE DIRECTOR OF GEOLOGY, ODISHA & MEMBER SECRETARY, SGPB. Smt A.B Mishra, Director of Geology, Odisha and Member Secretary, SGPB extended hearty welcome to Sri R. K. Sharma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Steel & Mines Department and Chairman SGPB, Sri Deepak Mohanty, IFS, Director of Mines, Odisha, Sri L. L Vishwakarma, Dy. Director General, GSI, (SU) Odisha, Sri R. Veenil Krishna, IAS (M.D), OMC and all the delegates & participants in the 55th SGPB meeting. The Member Secretary emphasized on the role of SGPB and contribution of the member organizations for the mineral development of the state. State Geological Programming Board (SGPB) meeting is being congregated in the similar forum as Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) to finalize the Annual Field Programme of the Directorate of Geology, Odisha after detailed discussion and deliberation by participating organizations. The objective of the SGPB is to recommend the Government of India regarding any issue that needs special attention for the mineral development of the state. She informed the house regarding the achievements of the 15 investigations undertaken by the Directorate of Geology during the year 2018-19 in accordance with the resolution of 54th SGPB.
