Das Supertalent (Got Talent) won a ‘Golden Camera’ for ‘Best Entertainment’. The show, produced by Grundy Light Entertainment, set a new record in 2009, when Season Three attracted 33.2 per cent of the 14- to 49-year- old viewer market, making it Germany’s most popular show among this target audience. Tom Sänger, Head of Entertainment at RTL Television, comments: “We feel very honoured by the ‘Golden Camera’ for Das Supertalent, and are proud to have established such a popular new show series, one that is as acclaimed among our critics as among our viewers.” The reader’s choice award, selected by readers of the TV programme guide Hörzu went to the culinary coaching show Rach, der Restauranttester featuring celebrity chef Christian Rach. The Golden Camera has been administered by Hörzu for 45 years and is one of the foremost awards in the German TV industry.

In early January, the US series Dr. House walked away with two ‘People’s Choice Awards’: as last year, House won for Best TV Drama, and this year its lead actor Hugh Laurie also won for Best Male TV Actor. This year’s ‘People’s Dr. House Choice Awards’ were presented on 6 January at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. RTL Television will air new episodes of the popular US series in spring.

The comedy series Californication, whose laurels include two ‘Emmys’ and a ‘Golden Globe’, airs on RTL II in Germany, and has been nominated by a jury of experts for a ‘Deutscher Preis für Synchron’ (German Dubbing Award) 2010 in the category ‘Outstanding TV series’. Gunther Burghagen, 44, resigned as Head of Sitcom at RTL Television at the end of January, in order to freelance as a fiction producer from now on.

In October 2009, Barbara Thielen had already taken over overall responsibility for Sitcoms at RTL as Head of the Fiction department. Prior to serving as Head of Sitcom, Gunther Burghagen spent five years at the head of RTL Television’s feature film department.

In the decade since 1999, Gunther Burghagen and the Sitcom editors were responsible for numerous popular formats, including the sitcoms Alles Atze, Nikola, Kinder, Kinder and most recently Der Lehrer, whose laurels include the German TV Award, the German Comedy Award, the Grimme Prize and the Golden Rose of Montreux. In all, the editorial team led by Burgh- agen managed more than 400 sitcom episodes, reaching peak audiences of 7.77 million viewers.

Gunther Burghagen says: “I was privileged to bear programming responsibility in many ways at RTL Television and I am very grateful to the broadcaster for these experiences. I have now decided to contribute my creative experience to projects and productions on my own steam.”
