There will be celebratory events and activities running during school holiday periods. More importantly, did you know that most of these national parks and reserves fall within Destination North Coast and are one of our key nature-based tourism assets. Check out the website here and find attached, the Gondwana Rainforest Anniversary Stakeholder Kit with ways to get involved. 1 Barrington Coast Winter Wonderland With the first heavy winter snowfall of the year hitting the Barrington Tops last week, visitors were likely surprised at the opportunity to build a snowman in the morning and a sandcastle in the afternoon such is the proximity of mountains and coast in this part of our region. Sharing whale watching experiences at the coast at the same time as snow on the mountains certainly kept the social channels buzzing with high engagement and a total of 356,000 people were reached in 7 days. The New England Highway is closed in Wallangarra in Queensland due to flooding – motorists cannot travel beyond Jennings in New South Wales as a result Between Moree and the Queensland border – The Carnarvon Highway is closed The Newell Highway is closed between Moree and the Queensland border, and between Moree and Narrabri At Biniguy, east of Moree – the Gwydir Highway is closed, east of Gretai Road Between Coopernook and Cundletown - one lane of the Pacific Highway is open in each direction with a reduced speed limit Between Walcha and Gloucester - Thunderbolts Way is closed At Failford - Failford Road is closed between the Pacific Highway and The Lakes Way The Oxley Highway is closed between Sancrox and Long Flat, as well as between Walcha and Mount Seaview Between Macksville and Nambucca Heads - Giinagay Way is closed between the Pacific Highway and Edgewater Drive Due to the unforeseen disruption of the road network that is beyond ScottsRL control we will endeavour to deliver but cannot guarantee your delivery will arrive on time as originally booked and will not accept any liability. We hope the Inquiry can help the NSW Government implement steps that will see koala declines reversed before it is too late. The GKNP Steering Committee is a non- incorporated informal group of local citizens who came together to promote the proposed Great Koala National Park (GKNP). The GKNP is a proposed network of existing and new national parks on the mid north coast that will help protect our national icon. The GKNP is proposed by the NSW National Parks Association. Visit GKNP for more information. The GKNP Steering Committee was formed once the GKNP proposal was released and includes active members from local and regional conservation groups as well as people from diverse backgrounds who are not associated with conservation groups eg Aboriginal cultural heritage, tourism, education and media. The committee is working together for a common purpose – to see the GKNP become a reality and critical koala habitat protected in perpetuity. Protecting identified critical koala habitat in a park such as the GKNP would provide koalas with a good chance of surviving in NSW. If we continue with business as usual, koalas will continue to die and slide towards extinction. The Steering Committee believes strongly that the implementation of the GKNP, if properly supported, will provide considerable social, economic and environmental benefits to the local and regional communities.
