Brian Fox Brian T. Fox (b. 1967) is a nationally-renowned artist specializing in painting the world’s greatest legends. His forte and passion center around sports and music but his ability and experience extend far beyond that scope. Brian has painted some of the biggest icons of our time, including the late Jackie Robinson, Keith Richards, Michael Phelps, Johnny Depp, Muhammad Ali, Derek Jeter and Pele´, to name just a few. Brian has been exhibiting his paintings in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, and Lexington. He is represented by numerous galleries around the country. Over the course of a 20-year career, Brian has forged many relationships with celebrities, athletes and organizations. His work is in many corporate and private collections, including singer Steven Tyler, N.E. Patriots’ Tom Brady and supermodel Gisele Bundgen, actor Mark Wahlberg, NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Jr. and many others. In addition to being honored as the official artist for the 2009 NHL Winter Classic, Brian has been selected as the official commemorative artist for Major League Baseball’s 2007, 2008 and 2009 All-Star Games, as well as the official artist for the 2007 World Series held in Boston. His work has been selected in the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles. Most recently, Brian was commissioned to produce five one-of-a-kind collector’s portraits of soccer icon Pele´. He is also producing a series of original paintings exclusively for Walt Disney Cruise lines. A TRIBUTE TO JACKIE ROBINSON A MAN FOR ALL TIMES When most African Americans think of Jackie Robinson, they think of the ultimate symbol of racial pride and progress in the sports arena. Jackie Robinson represented that symbol when he was chosen as the first African American to play in modern times for the Major League Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson was chosen to fill these shoes by Branch Rickey, president and general manager of the Dodgers. October 23, 1945 was the date that Robinson signed a contract to play with the Montreal Royals, a minor league affiliate of the Dodgers. This was Robinson's official first step to the majors, which came on April 15, 1947 when he entered Ebbets Field to play baseball with the Dodgers. This April 15, 1997 will be the 50th Anniversary of the celebrated date. Jack (Jackie) Roosevelt Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919. He was the youngest of the five children of Jerry and Mallie Robinson. When Jackie's father Jerry, a sharecropper, left home seeking work, his mother, Mallie, decided to move west, seeking a better life with her children by her side. She was able to find a house in the suburbs of Pasadena, California. Life was not that easy for the Robinsons, being the only black family in this not so friendly area of California. Jackie and his older brother, Mack, took to sports early on in their school years. Mack became a world-class sprinter, and, by 1936, he was invited to compete in the 200 meter dash in the Olympics held in Berlin, Germany.

Great outing, even greater people in Sandy Koufax perfecto against Chicago Cubs By George Castle, CBM Historian Posted Thursday, September 3, 2015 (Second of a two-part series on the 50th anniversary of Sandy Koufax’s perfect game against the Cubs on Sept. 9, 1965 in what may have been the greatest pitching duel in history with Chicago lefty Bob Hendley.) On the surface, the Sandy Koufax perfect game is part of baseball mythology, Koufax’s fastball growing ever faster over the decades, the Cubs’ swings even more futile, the lone run scored even more fluky, the only hit in the game even more shaky. Oral history is the main conduit of its memories, and you know how baseball stories get exaggerated as time progresses. It might as well have taken place in the 19th Century, given how 15 years into the TV era — and with the dramatic expansion of network color telecasts beginning the next week — only three innings of halting home-movie film ex- ists (see accompanying story below). Three network-owned stations and four other inde- pendent VHF stations in Los Angeles, all with regular newscasts, declined to film the game despite the Dodgers’ position in the pennant race.
