January 2019 MONTHLY SUMMARY OF THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY, 2019 1. On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, following programmes/events have been conducted by organisations of Ministry of Culture: i. Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind led the nation in paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, 2019. ii. The National Salt Satyagrah Memorial was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister at Dandi, Gujarat, on 30.1.2019. iii. Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti in association with the Airports Authority of India set up the Mahatma Gandhi interpretation Centre at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport on 23.1.2019. The exhibition focused on Mahatma Gandhi’s relation with Varanasi comprising of 12 panels. iv. Two days Gandhi Katha by Brahma Kumari’s was organised by GSDS in January, 2019. v. Department of Museology of National Museum conducted a series of workshops titled ‘Gandhi for All’ in Ladakh, Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh so as to reflect upon the life and principles of Mahatma Gandhi in a fun and meaningful way. 2. Commemorative Coin was released by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 13.01.2019 to commemorate 350th Birth Anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. 3. West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur organized ‘Lokotsav’ at Goa, ‘Camel Festival’ at Bikaner, ‘Prakruti Festival’ at Mumbai and ‘Multi-lingual Theatre Festival - Natyotsav’ at Goa. All the ZCCs are also participating in ongoing Kumbha Mela, 2019 at Prayagraj. 4. Allahabad Museum organized an exhibition based on ‘Kumbh-Mela’ at Kalagram at Arail, Prayagraj. 5. National Museum is exhibiting ‘Ethnic Jewellery of Himachal Pradesh’ from 11th December to 15thFebruary 2019. 70 jewellery pieces are on display in the exhibition. 6. The Archaeological Survey of India and Hercules Laboratory, University of Evora, Lisbon, Portugal jointly organized a workshop “Old Goa Revelation: New Insight on the Vice-Roys Portrait Gallery” at Goa. 7. Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts organized “Arya Utsav-a festival to celebrate the cultural traditions of Dard Aryans of Ladakh”. 8. National Museum Institute (NMI) i. NMI conducted the International seminar on ‘Cosmopolitan Kalamkaris: Crafting connections through 17th century figural fabrics’. ii. NMI in collaboration with the Comité International d’ Histoire de l’Art (CIHA), organized a three-day International Colloquium in which more than 100 scholars and art historians presented their papers. iii. The new Campus of National Museum Institute at NOIDA was inaugurated by Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon'ble Minister for Human Resource Development, Govt. of India in the Presence of Dr Mahesh Sharma, Hon'ble Minister of State (I/c) for Culture and Hon’ble Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India & Chancellor, National Museum Institute on 30thJanuary 2019. 9. Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) i. SNA in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi, organised the 156th Birth Anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda and the 126th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Address. ii. SNA sponsored Lai Haraoba and folk dance of Manipur led by Shrimati Dhanarani Devi on the occasion of the 19th Global Folk Dance Competition & Carnival at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. 10. Sahitya Akademi (SA) i. SA, in collaboration with Bodo Sahitya Sabha, organized a Birth Centenary Seminar on Kalicharan Brahma at Kokrajhar, Assam. ii. In collaboration with Sparshanandan, Sahitya Akademi organized a Brailee Poetry Festival of the visually impaired poets at Narendrapur Blind Boys Academy, Narendrapur, West Bengal. iii. The Sahitya Akademi celebrated its Annual Festival of Letters 2019 and organized various programmes during the festival. 11. Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI) provided collaborative Academic Financial Assistance for holding the National Seminar “Essence of India: Unique Markers of Biology, Culture, Language and History of India Population” at Anthropological Association, Mysore. 12. A Cultural Exchange Programme between India and Algeria was signed during the month of January, 2019. .

We are commited to promote Swacch Bharat, Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat, Padhe Bharat, Sugamya Bharat and physical education. iv. We resolve to promote human value education, life skill education, experiential learning to bring out good human beings out of the education system. Speaking on the occasion Union Minister for Human Resource Development Shri Prakash Javadekar emphasised that education is a national agenda which empowers the individual, family, society and the nation. He highlighted some recent steps such as codification of learning outcomes, national academic depository, digital initiatives that strength education, training of 15 lakh untrained teachers, re-introduction of class X board examinations, and the status of no detention policy.

The Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj in the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Law and Justice, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and Hon’ble Minister of HRD Shri Prakash Javadekar launched the e-sanad software. Shri R.K. Chaturvedi, IAS, Chairman CBSE, presented CBSE Parinam Manjusha - the Digital repository of academic records of CBSE affiliated students which has been integrated with e-sanad software of MEA to provide hassle free access of attested certificates and marksheets of students of CBSE affiliated schools to universities and prospective employers. The academic records can be stored, accessed and updated anytime anywhere. Employers and educational institutions can use this repository to verify academic records of CBSE students online. The digital academic certificates from this repository are also available to students through Digi Locker said the Chairman. At present almost 25 Lakh Class X and XII digitally signed academic records such as mark sheets, pass certificates, migration certificates of 2014, 2015 and 2016 are available on a nominal payment of `100/- through payment gateway. Legacy data will also be added gradually. Parinam Manjusha also helps the verifiers who can register for free. 232 verifiers have made use of this facility so far.

    High Commission of India Nairobi India-Kenya Bilateral Relations India and Kenya are maritime neighbours. The contemporary ties between India and Kenya have now evolved into a robust and multi-faceted partnership, marked by regular high-level visits, increasing trade and investment as well as extensive people to people contacts. The presence of Indians in East Africa is documented in the 'Periplus of the Erythraean Sea' or Guidebook of the Red Sea by an ancient Greek author written in 60 AD. A well-established trade network existed between India and the Swahili Coast predating European exploration. India and Kenya share a common legacy of struggle against colonialism. Many Indians participated and supported the freedom struggle of Kenya. India established the office of Commissioner for British East Africa resident in Nairobi in 1948. Apasaheb Pant was the first Commissioner. Following Kenyan independence in December 1963, a High Commission was established. India has had an Assistant High Commission in Mombasa. Vice President Dr. S Radhakrishnan visited Kenya in July 1956. Smt. Indira Gandhi attended the Kenyan Independence celebrations in 1963. PM Indira Gandhi visited Kenya in 1970 and 1981. PM Morarji Desai visited Kenya in 1978. President Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy visited Kenya in 1981. President Moi visited India for a bilateral visit in 1981 and for the NAM Summit in 1983. Bilateral Institutional Mechanisms:The third Joint Commission Meeting at Foreign Minister level was held in Nairobi in June 2021 and the ninth session of Joint Trade Committee at CIM level was held in New Delhi in August 2019. First JDCC meeting on Defence was held in February 2019 in India.

What is the thinking behind this? Minister Javadekar: Our vision is to eradicate poverty in India, because poverty is a real problem which can be addressed through growth and development which has to be sustainable. Green growth implies environmental sustainability, more energy efficiency, reducing energy intensity, and decreasing emissions intensity. The growth process involves reducing emission, reducing energy consumption, and also creating more greens and creating new carbon stocks and therefore carbon sinks while growing in a balanced manner.
