It is the only one Vamanamoorthy temple in south Kerala. Located on the banks of Vamanapuram, the temple is dedicated to Vamana, the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This is because of this temple this place got the name Vamanapuram. This temple was also known as Thevar Kovil. RELEVANCE- Local Around 50,000 NO. OF PEOPLE (Local / National PARTICIPATED / International) EVENTS/PROGRAMS DESCRIPTION (How festival is celebrated) Flag Hoisting Annadanam Cultural Programs and The annual festival falls in the Malayalam month of kumbham folk arts (February/March). It is an 8 days spectacular event. There is a flag Spiritual discourses hoisting ceremony marking the beginning of the festival. The Seminars shrine is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, Percussion Music flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights. There are special Musical Concerts poojas and offerings during the festival period. Also annadanam is Drama held on all days. Traditional performing arts and music and dance Bale are staged during the festival period. Thousands of devotees Dance throng to witness the events and rituals. Numerous cultural Kadhakali programs and temple arts are performed along with religious Ottanthullal discourses on all days of the festival. Caparisoned elephants, Chakyarkoothu melam, fireworks and sheevali are part of the festival. On the final Mohiniyattam day Arattu(holy bath) takes place, the utsava murti of the deity is Bharathanatyam taken out of the shrine for ritual bathing on the final day. Sopana Sangeetham Arattu.
