Doktor Calum Muir był redaktorem drugiej edycji ICD-O. Jako patolog przyczynił się do stworzenia nowej terminologii morfologicznej i najnowszej klasyfikacji chłoniaków, białaczek i guzów mózgu. Jego kontakty z wieloma rejestrami pomogły upowszechnić klasyfikację ICD-O na całym świecie. Po odejściu na emeryturę z Międzynarodowej Agencji Badań nad Rakiem (IARC), gdzie początkowo pełnił funkcję kierownika Departamentu Epidemiologii, a następnie zastępcy dyrektora generalnego, Calum Muir został kierownikiem rejestru nowotworowego w Szkocji. Był niezwykle pomocny przy zakładaniu Międzynarodowego Stowarzyszenia Rejestrów Nowotworowych (IARC) w 1966 roku, gdzie w latach 1972-1990 pracował na stanowisku zastępcy sekretarza a od 1992 roku, do śmierci, na stanowisku prezydenta. W porozumieniu z College of American Pathologists część morfologiczna ICD-O została włączona do klasyfikacji Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED)ii,iii, jako rozdział dotyczący nowotworów. W 1990 roku wydano drugą rewizję Międzynarodowej Klasyfikacji Chorób dla Onkologii (International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, Second Edition – ICD-O-2)iv, opracowaną przez Constance Percy, Valerie VanHolten i Calum Muir. Cześć topograficzna ICD-O-2 oraz kolejnej – trzeciej rewizji (ICD-O-3)v, oparta została na II rozdziale klasyfikacji ICD-10vi dotyczącym nowotworów. Lista morfologiczna w klasyfikacji ICD-O-3 została jednak poprawiona uwzględniając nowe rozpoznania, szczególnie chłoniaków i białaczek, oraz wyznaczając dla nich nowe kody. Na rozbudowę tej listy duży wpływ miało wprowadzenie klasyfikacji REAL (Revised European American Lymphoma)vii stosowanej do kodowania chłoniaków nieziarniczych, poszerzając zakres kodów ICD-O o tę grupę nowotworów. Zostały także włączone określenia z systemu klasyfikacji białaczek FAB (French–American–British)viii. Grupa robocza, która w 1998 roku zebrała się w celu weryfikacji klasyfikacji ICD-O, planowała poprawienie tylko tych dwóch części, ale ostatecznie zadecydowano o poprawieniu całej klasyfikacji. Trzecia rewizja ICD-O testowana była przez cały 1999 rok. Wyrazy wdzięczności należą się rejestrom na całym świecie za ich komentarze odnoszące się do treści tej rewizji. Tumors that originate from ceruminous glands are very rare; thus, the classification, clinical behavior, and management of these tumors remain debatable. Here we present a case of ceruminous adenocarcinoma arising from the external auditory canal with all the mandatory histological features. Although most authors advise more aggressive therapy, our patient was treated with local en bloc resection of the tumor followed by intensity modulated radiotherapy. Histological and immunohistochemical practical studies of canine cutaneous tumors Summary A total of one hundred and fifty-three canine cutaneous tumors were examined and analyzed using the standard haematoxylin-eosin staining method. Additionally, tumors were examined immunohistochemically (41.4%) with antibodies LP34, AE1/AE3, V9 and histochemically (24.8%) with toluidine blue. Epithelial and melanocytic tumors of the skin accounted for 52.3% and mesenchymal tumours constituted 47.7%. All epidermal and follicular tumors demonstrated positive immunostaining for “LP34” antibodies. Fibromas and fibrosarcomas, which were immunohistochemically positive for antibodies “V9”, demonstrated negative immunostaining for antibodies “LP34”. As many as 47.4% of all round cell tumors showed positive staining with toluidine blue. Antibodies “LP34” are helpful for the differential diagnosis of epithelial cells of tumors in canine skin, skin adnexal and subcutaneous tissues. Antibodies “AE1/AE3” could be helpful for detecting metastatic glandular epithelial cells in the skin.

Email: [email protected] Abstract Trichofolliculoma is a rare occurrence in children, and more speciically in the head and neck region, with the majority of cases describing central facial growths. We present a case of a 7-year old girl who presented with bloody otorrhea, aural fullness, and otalgia, in the irst pediatric report of trichofolliculoma of the external auditory canal. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a smooth mass illing the external auditory canal, and histology demonstrated a hamartomatous growth with partial hair follicle differentiation. This case emphasizes the inclusion of trichofolliculoma in the differential diagnoses of children with ear masses, with surgical resection being a curative option. Histologically, it is a mixed tumor with epithelial and stromal parts of different proportions, and is recognized today by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a ceruminous adenoma. Similar to the pleomorphic adenoma of salivary glands, recurrence or malignant degeneration with cellular atypia and metastasis can occur on rare occasions. Here, we describe an 87-year old female patient with a growing spherical mass in the right external auditory canal. After exclusive endoscopic tumor resection, a ceruminous pleomorphic adenoma was histologically diagnosed. Due to the absence of nuclear pleomorphism, no increased mitotic rate, no perineural invasion and no fusion transcripts of the MYB or MYBL1 gene loci, an adenoid cystic carcinoma could be excluded. The postoperative course was without any evidence of complications.
