The Minister was accompanied by Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed on the occasion. It was followed by guard of honour which the Minister Hasil Bizenjo took from the parade on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion, the Minister Hasil Khan Bizenjo laid stress on collective efforts which has become mandatory for Pakistan over the years for realizing economic progress. He pointed out that labour and management are two wheels which runs the organization; and hence collective efforts from both the sides are required. He complimented the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed as well as his team, including KPT management and labour/workers, for meeting 50 million tons cargo handling target and assured them full support of his Ministry on projects that the KPT has undertaken thus far. The Minister Hasil Bizenjo also distributed the best employees awards and announced a bonus on the occasion. In his key note address, earlier, the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed welcomed the Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo and informed year KPT handled 43 million tons and it was due to favourable him about 50 million policies of government, especially the federal Ministry of Ports tons cargo handling and Shipping, that KPT was able to surpass this target. Services of PN Tugs as standby and coordination with JMICCwere also made by KPT under the direction of Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed. The whole rescue operation lasted for 16 hours. The vessel was carrying Benzene chemical sailed from Karachi Port on 2nd July for her next destination but her engine failed and one by one she lost both of her anchors at the outer anchorage (outside KPT Channel). The vessel started drifting on the mercy of high sea waves and KPT CMC team timely rescued her from grounding and berthed her at Mooring inside the KPT channel. The overall length of Chemtrans 1 is 117 meter, Breadth of 16 m and draft of 6 m with Gross Tonnage of 3533MT and 6058 dead weight. Due to untiring efforts of KPT, imminent disaster of marine pollution were averted. KPT being the natural and premier port of the Nation provides shelter to ships even during the roughest season. The port has always remain vigilant in providing facilities to shipping lines and trade communities which has translated well into results the port has nurtured over the years. All the stakeholders related to the project including KPT attended the meeting which was chaired by KPT General Manager Operations Rear Admiral Asif Hameed SI (M). All the issues related to the matter including the security issues came under discussion during the presentation given on the occasion by the Planning and Development Division of KPT. The procurement of ferry vessels is already underway by the PNSC and its present status was also informed to Rear Admiral Asif Hameed SI (M) during the discussions. Later, the delegation visited the port area of Karachi Port where the ferry terminal will be constructed.
