Esquivias Assistant National Statistician National Censuses Service ISSN 0117-1453 FOREWORD The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducted the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) in August 2015 primarily to update the country’s population and its demographic characteristics, such as the size, composition, and geographic distribution. Report No. 3 – Population, Land Area, and Population Density is among the series of publications that present the results of the POPCEN 2015. This publication provides information on the population size, land area, and population density by region, province, highly urbanized city, and city/municipality based on the data from population census conducted by the PSA in the years 2000, 2010, and 2015; and data on land area by city/municipality as of December 2013 that was provided by the Land Management Bureau (LMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Also presented in this report is the percent change in the population density over the three census years. The population density shows the relationship of the population to the size of land where the population resides. -

No. 929-3244, 927-9702 Loc.131; Cell phone: 09159111585 _________________________________________________________________________ PDEA SEIZES 100 GRAMS OF SHABU IN NAGA AND LEGAZPI CITY The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confiscated 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, popularly known as shabu, during separate buy-bust operations in Legazpi and Naga City on February 5-6, 2015 that also resulted in the arrest of four suspected drug personalities. PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr., identified the suspects as Roque Ebete y Manalo, 28 years old, jobless and a resident of Purok 5, Bonot, Legazpi City, Albay; Rodelio Ragay y Divinaflores, 38,tricycle driver; Chauser Kelvin Parra y Coralde, alias Boboy, 22; both residents of Zone 3, Brgy. Mabolo, Naga City; and Gary Ornelia y Magallanes, alias Puroy, 38, tinsmith, of Brgy. Balatas, Naga City. On February 5, 2015, at around 4:45 pm, elements of PDEA Regional Office 5-Albay Provincial Office under Director Archie A. Grande conducted a buy-bust operation in Purok 5, Bonot, Legazpi City that led to the arrest of Ebete. Confiscated from him was one piece of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected shabu weighing approximately 50 grams and the buy-bust money. Ebete is temporarily detained at the PDEA RO5 detention cell. -

Cecilia Fe L Sta Maria1 Monumentalizing the urban and concealing the rural/coastal A Spatial Reading of Matnog, Sorsogon, Philippines DOI: 10.18030/socio.hu.2016en.62 Abstract A discursive reading on how urban ideology is monumentalized, this article peels on the spatial experi- ence of Matnog, Sorsogon as it transitions from a rural/coastal nature to the urban. Taking a spatial perspec- tive, with theoretical underpinnings from Lefebvre’s concept of ‘oeuvre’, interlaced with Bourdieu’s take on social space and Giddens’ arguments on historical time, the article elaborates on the spatial machinations orchestrated to construct polemical spaces that deftly conceal spaces occupied by the poor. Extrapolating from photographs and maps of the place, field notes and interviews with Matnog residents who come from the low-income bracket, elucidated spatial consequences that weave discourses on the spatial problematic that unfolds through the shift in social space and historical time, consequential to the silencing of social differences in the transitioning spaces. With a history of colonization that ended in the 1940s, the country has adopted varied cultural influences. Currently, the country is establishing its status as an emerging country in Asia and moving towards develop- ment, but what is observable is that the policies crafted are still patterned after the colonialists, specifically the Americans. -

DEEMER DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR June 2, 2020 The Honorable Ikaika Anderson Chair and Presiding Officer and Members Honolulu City Council 530 South King Street, Room 202 Honolulu, Hawaii 96813 Dear Chair Anderson and Councilmembers: SUBJECT: Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21) Executive Operating Budget Bill 20, CDI The Office of Economic Development (OED) respectfully requests removal of the proviso in Bill 20, CDI restricting funding in the Office of the Managing Director — City Management from appropriation for the Sister Cities Programs. The proviso states “No funds shall be appropriated for the Sister Cities Program.” This proviso would prevent OED from fully realizing its mission in FY21 to promote economic growth and enhance the quality of life for the residents of the City and County of Honolulu by cultivating tourism and hospitality, advancing business, assisting agricultural development, and promoting the screen industries. The City and County of Honolulu enjoys a long and vibrant Sister City Program that not only has enriched cultural exchanges but brings direct economic benefit to Honolulu through donations, investments and business opportunities. Sister City guidelines were established by Resolution 91-240 which requires City funds be “appropriated within two years of the signing of the document establishing the Sister City relationship and every five years thereafter to provide for the exchange of gifts or good will missions to promote the newly established sisterhood and the concept of mutual understanding.” OED shared with the council reports on the Status of Sister Cities of the City and County of Honolulu that detailed recent activities between our city and each Sister City (attached). -

Philippines: Typhoon Haiyan Situation Report No. 9 (as of 15 November 2013) This report is produced by OCHA Philippines in collaboration with humanitarian partners. It was issued by OCHA Philippines. It covers the period from 14 to 15 November 2013. The report is issued at 18:00 Manila time (10:00 UTC). The next report will be issued on or around 16 November. Highlights The number of people affected has increased to 12.9 million, with over 1.9 million people displaced. This represents a significant increase from the previous reporting period. An estimated 150,000 people have access to water from 28,000 water connections which have been restored in eight municipalities in Tacloban. 170,475 people received family food packs, of which over 34,000 packs were distributed on 14 November in Leyte. 12.9 million 1.9 million 285,993 Affected people People displaced Damaged houses Source: DSWD as at 18:00 (10:00 UTC) Situation Overview One week after Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) struck the Philippines, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) estimates that 12.9 million people have been affected across nine regions (Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Bicol, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Caraga). These figures continue to change as more reports are verified. The number of people displaced increased from 900,000 people on 14 November to 1.9 million people on 15 November. In the same period, the number of people living outside of evacuation centers has almost tripled from over 575,000 people to 1.4 million people. -

The report features the Bureau’s significant contributions through various reforms and programs in exercising its mandate of prudently and proactively managing the Government’s financial resources. DE LEON Treasurer of the Philippines 1 3 THE TREASURER’S REPORT 2018 was a proving ground for the soundness of the plans and initiatives we have put in place to actively administer Government resources and prudently manage public debt. Amidst the unraveling of a challenging financial environment, we were able to respond to the Government’s expanding financing need head-on through proper cash management and a strategic approach to fundraising. As part of our stewardship over government resources, we endeavored to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our financial asset management including maximizing returns on the investible funds of the Government.
