He worked as a typeface designer and type and machine setter, and was Vice President for Mergenthaler Linotype. He started out in the field of typography in 1915, when he was hired as an assistant to the President of the Mergenthaler Linotype and became a specialist in setting newspaper fonts. He became Vice President of Mergenthaler Linotype in 1936, which made him responsible for the typographic development of the company.     Direct investments in the US by Indian enterprises Setting the new agenda October 2012 – December 2014 Rajiv Memani Chairman - India Region, EY Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the US in September 2014 added new dimensions to the dialogue between our two nations, and instilled renewed confidence in business leaders. The Fifth US-India Strategic Dialogue and the visit of the US dignitaries to India were amongst the other recent events that reinforced bilateral ties between the two countries. At the same time, the US President Barack Obama’s visit to India is expected to provide an additional push to Indo-US relations. From a business standpoint, the U.S has always held out significant appeal to businesses seeking to make a global impact. It is ranked as one of the world’s topmost investment destinations. Direct investments in the US by Indian enterprises, is a series launched by EY and FICCI in 2006 to unravel the lesser known story of Indian FDI into the US. Today, hundreds of Indian companies are operating in the US. They have invested millions of dollars, generated and supported thousands of jobs, and made a deep impact through their philanthropic initiatives and community engagements. These companies have shown the courage to successfully compete with their global peers on their home turf. This report is the fifth in a series, initiated in 2006, which has become a “ready reckoner” for anyone seeking to do business with and in the US. Indian investments in the US have remained strong during October 2012 to December 2014, despite global and domestic economic turbulence.

I suspect the text is quite uneven as a result. Part IV is largely cut-and-paste from several texts in English and Spanish, particularly the long preface to the 2nd ed. of Encountering Development. This part will need additional re/writing besides editing and reorganizing. The references are somewhat incomplete; there are a few key design references of which I have been made aware very recently that are not, or not significantly, included (e.g., on participatory design, postcolonial computing, and human-computer interaction).

In his dream he finds himself in a society where A music education has been made mandatory. “We are helping our students become more competitive in an increasingly sound-filled world.” Educators, school systems, and the state are put in charge of this vital project. Studies are commissioned, committees are formed, and decisions are made— all without the advice or participation of a single working musician or composer. Since musicians are known to set down their ideas in the form of sheet music, these curious black dots and lines must constitute the “language of music.” It is imperative that students become fluent in this language if they are to attain any degree of musical competence; indeed, it would be ludicrous to expect a child to sing a song or play an instrument without having a thorough grounding in music notation and theory. Playing and listening to music, let alone composing an original piece, are considered very advanced topics and are generally put off until college, and more often graduate school. As for the primary and secondary schools, their mission is to train students to use this language— to jiggle symbols around according to a fixed set of rules: “Music class is where we take out our staff paper, our teacher puts some notes on the board, and we copy them or transpose them into a different key. We have to make sure to get the clefs and key signatures right, and our teacher is very picky about making sure we fill in our quarter-notes completely.
