BEFORE AFTER City of Redondo Beach (July 2012) MR312.13 - Aviation Blvd at Artesia Blvd - This project installed an eastbound right‐turn lane on Aviation Bl at the Aviation Bl. intersection. This was a signal and/or intersection improvement to a parallel roadway that benefits the I‐405 freeway. Before picture (no after picture available) City of Redondo Beach (July 2012) MR312.14 - Inglewood Ave at Manhattan Beach Blvd This improvement installed east bound right-turn arrows from north bound Inglewood Bl. where there hadn’t been any before. The two traffic signal heads on both corners of the intersection were upgraded to 5-section heads, versus the previous 3-section heads. This was a signal and/or intersection improvement to a roadway that benefits the I‐405 freeway. BEFORE AFTER City of Torrance (April 2013) MR312.18 - Maple Ave at Sepulveda Blvd - This project widened the right-turn lane on south-bound Maple Ave. and added new video detection and pedestrian countdown indications at all four corners. This is a signal & intersection improvement within 1 mile of SR‐107, benefitting the I‐405 freeway. BEFORE AFTER City of El Segundo (January 2014) MR312.22 - Maple Ave from Sepulveda Blvd to Parkview Pl - This project improved signage and the widened the roadway on Maple Ave to provide a connection between north bound Sepulveda Bl. and the east bound I‐105 ramps. This project provides an alternate route to and from the I-105 freeway, which relieves congestion on Sepulveda Blvd. Other improvements include: storm water ponding by installing catch basins and connecting them to the storm drain system, turn movements and traffic circulation, and traffic channelization (installation of calming features.) BEFORE AFTER City of Gardena (January 2014) MR312.19 - Artesia Blvd at Western Ave - This project added west bound dual left-turn lanes on the east approach of the intersection in the cities of Gardena & Torrance. An additional lane was added to improve the flow of traffic (west bound Artesia Blvd carries traffic from the I-405.) This project is a signal & intersection improvement within 1 mile of SR‐91, benefitting the I‐405 freeway. BEFORE AFTER City of Hawthorne (May 2015) MR312.44 – Hawthorne Blvd from El Segundo Blvd to Rosecrans Ave – This project will make enhancements to improve traffic flow, increase pedestrian safety, and improve the efficiency of public transit use. The scope included: installation of angle parking on both sides of Hawthorne Boulevard, construction of 4 left-turn pockets, addition of lane capacity/widening, and installation of bulb outs to ensure adequate water flow and minimization of flooding. BEFORE AFTER City of Manhattan Beach (May 2015) MR312.04 – Marine Ave at Sepulveda Blvd – This project widened the existing roadway along Marine Ave at Sepulveda Blvd to provide an additional westbound left-turn lane. The purpose of this project is to improve the Level of Service of the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard. Traffic delay and queuing occurrences at the intersection will be reduced and efficiency of the arterial system will be improved. This will improve regional mobility and reduce congestion for fixed-route transit and truck traffic and improve access to intermodal transportation systems, such as the airport and rail station. Constructing the intersection and traffic signal improvements will provide increased traffic capacity for vehicles to utilize the arterial system and reduce congestion during peak hours for turning vehicles that typically obstruct through traffic. Before After City of Gardena (July 2015) MR312.17 – Rosecrans Ave Arterial Improvements from Vermont Ave to Crenshaw Blvd – Rosecrans serves as an alternate to Artesia Boulevard and Freeway 91 to convey beach traffic directly from Freeway 11 0; improvements will include addition of turn pockets where geometrically possible, channelization, traffic signal improvements, pavement upgrades, and some concrete work. This project will provide increased safety for the motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists in the area. BEFORE AFTER City of Gardena (July 2015) MR312.21 – Vermont Ave Arterial Improvements from Rosecrans Ave to 182nd Street – The purpose of this project is to improve safety and traffic channelization along Vermont Ave with geometric improvements to eliminate conflict points. Vermont Avenue runs parallel to Freeway 110 and serves as a by-pass for spot congestion on the freeway; improvements will include addition of turn pockets where geometrically possible, channelization, and traffic signal improvements. This project will provide increased safety for the motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists in the area. BEFORE AFTER Caltrans District 7 (July 2015) MR312.24 – 405/110 Interchange to Torrance Blvd Off-Ramp, Interchange Improvements, and Construction of Auxiliary Lane – This project is to improve the operational mobility and level of service (LOS) of the I-110/I-405 Interchange by increasing the capacity of the I-110 mainline and providing an auxiliary lane for the NB I-405 to SB I-110 connector. The limited capacity and existing traffic demands on the SB I-110 mainline within the project limits produce recurrent traffic congestion during the morning and afternoon peak hours , and as a result, the NB I-405 to SB I-110 loop connector also experiences traffic congestion that backs up onto the NB I-405 mainline. These conditions will further deteriorate with increasing traffic volumes. The project’s Approval and Environmental Document stage (PA&ED) was paid for by SBHP Measure R funds. Caltrans funds are paying for the design phase, which is currently underway. Caltrans funds are paying for the ROW phase, which is currently underway. The construction phase is also to be funded with SBHP Measure R funds in Dec 2019.
