The building was completed in October 2000 and the school opened in Guest Avenue to all children following the half term holiday. The school is a community co-educational primary school and takes children from the age of four to eleven years. It has a Special Educational Needs "Resource Base" for up to 18 physically disabled and/or visually impaired children which provides specialist teaching. The children are included in mainstream classes as appropriate. Currently, the school is organised into 9 classes. Children whose parents live in South Gloucestershire may be admitted to school at the beginning of the academic year provided they have reached 4 years of age on or before 31 August so that they can benefit from a full three-year infant education. The admission of Reception children is phased for the first three weeks of the Term 1 in order to help them settle into school life successfully. The Local Education Service deals with admission to the Reception class although the school facilitates this process. Further details can be found online at www.southglos.gov.uk/admissions or in the booklet “Information for Parents - Admission to Schools in South Gloucestershire.” Information relating to school transfer at eleven years of age is detailed in a booklet published by the Local Education Service every September. Parents can apply for secondary places on line at www.southglos.gov.uk/admissions The school is part of the South Gloucestershire Education Service. The offices of the Education Services are at Badminton Road, Yate, South Gloucestershire, Tel: (01454) 868008 Fax: (01454) 863263 e-mail: [email protected]. The Educational Psychologist is available to offer advice on children experiencing learning difficulties or behavioural problems in line with our Special Needs Policy. There is a set procedure and parents are consulted at all stages. The Service for SEN can advise and support teachers in helping children who have specific needs. Additionally the school benefits from the services of a number of external agencies including speech therapists, physiotherapists, etc. 4 GOVERNORS The school governors represent a cross-section of the community and they serve for a period of 4 years, meeting at least three times a year. They are involved in setting up strategy, standards, aims and objectives, policies and targets for achieving the objectives and then reviewing progress. Parent governors must have a child attending the school at the time of election and are elected by the parents. More recently Mangotsfield CE has gained Teaching School status and the schools are now part of the Nexus Teaching School Alliance. Our Aims: To work collaboratively To raise the attainment and life-chances of the students in our schools To procure high quality services and expertise To share practice and innovation across our schools to provide high quality development opportunities for all To develop a culture of collaboration, commitment and coaching in all we do. Our Commitment To be open and transparent in all our school-to-school relationships To be fully committed to joint practice development To enable colleagues and governors to work together across schools To help and support all schools within the partnership on their journeys of continuous improvement To work hard to overcome barriers that might impede our progress To collaborate in the development of the future leaders of our schools and community We will establish clear protocols and accountability structures for our various learning project groups. Peer review and challenge will be at the heart of everything that we do. We will engage external improvement partners to ensure that we are suitably challenged. What OFSTED said about NEXUS: Blackhorse Primary School was the first to have an OFSTED inspection as part of the NEXUS Learning Partnership in January 2015. Inspectors noted that this was a ‘powerful grouping’, commenting in the report that: “Relationships with partner schools are used effectively to strengthen school improvement. The school embraces its involvement with NEXUS, a group of six primary schools that focus on inter-school evaluation. This partnership challenges judgements the

Emersons Green Primary School September 2014 Dear Parents, Thank you for your interest in sending your child to one of the schools in the Emerson Green/ Mangotsfield area. We understand that choosing the right school for your child is very important and you will need time and information before you are able to make your decision. The above four schools work very closely together and in order to help, we have allocated times for you to visit each school if you wish. (See below). The meetings will give you an opportunity to view the school(s) and meet the Headteacher(s) and ask any questions you may have. These meetings are not really suitable for children. Once you have made a decision and a place has been offered there will be opportunities for parents and children to visit the school and become more familiar with the staff and the setting. Sometimes parents have confidential issues they would like to discuss with the Headteacher(s). Usually it is possible to do this briefly at the end of the meetings. However you may want to ring the school prior to the meeting to check whether you need to make an alternative appointment if you would like to talk in confidence.
