Slovenia is a story of love, a love of being active in nature, which is almost second nature to Slovenians. In every large town or village, you can enjoy a view of green hills or Alpine peaks, and almost every Slove- nian loves to put on their hiking boots and yell out a hurrah in the embrace of the mountains. Thenew guidebook will show you the most beauti- ful hiking trails around Slovenia and tips on how to prepare for hiking, what to experience and taste, where to spend the night, and how to treat yourself after a long day of hiking. Save the dates of the biggest hiking celebrations in Slovenia – the Slovenia Hiking Festivals. Indeed, Slovenians walk always and everywhere. We are proud to celebrate 120 years of the Alpine Associati- on of Slovenia, the biggest volunteer organisation in Slovenia, responsible for maintaining mountain trails. Themountaineering culture and excitement about the beauty of Slovenia’s nature connects all generations, all Slovenian tourist farms and wine cellars. Experience this joy and connection between people in motion. Digital platform for citizens and authorities, municipality of Isérables (Switzerland) (picture Peter Niederer) Smart Digital Transformation of Villages in the Alpine Space Newsletter #01 – March 2019 SmartVillages aims to create opportunities for a smart transition of Municipalities and Regions in mountainous areas through new forms of stakeholder involvement facilitated by Information and Communication Technologies. Innovative 2.685.381 EUR from 17 April 2018 to 16 April 2021 Newsletter #01 – March 2019 www.alpine-space.eu/projects/smartvillages www.facebook.com/project.SmartVillages/ Alpine space rural communities suffer from a brain drain, due to the lack of highly needed jobs, good provision of services as well as a favourable climate for entrepreneurship and social innovation. Although digitalisation offers a promising approach to address this challenge, the digital divide between rural and urban areas has increased in the last years. A smart village approach for mountain areas could unlock the potential of local actors to make their region a more attractive place to live and work. By applying a smart village approach and bringing together policy-makers, business, academia and civil society actors, the project aims at fostering innovation through new forms of stakeholder involvement facilitated by Information and Communication Technologies. WHAT ARE SMART VILLAGES? According to the European Commission, smart villages are communities in rural areas that develop smart solutions to deal with challenges in their local context. They build on existing local strengths and opportunities to engage in a process of sustainable development of their territories. They rely on a participatory approach to develop and implement their strategies to improve their economic, social and environmental conditions, in particular by promoting innovation and mobilizing solutions offered by digital technologies.

  • Uvodnik Uvodnik
Anton Tone Smolnikar Župan, vodja Odbora za pripravo na tekmovanje Entente florale Kamnik first took part in the Entente Florale international competition in 2001. Many different factors affected our decision to participate again this year but the enrolment was mostly based on our desire to provide a high quality of life in town.

  • Hydrological Analysis of High Waters and Flash Floods Occurred in September 2007 in Slovenia
HYDROLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF HIGH WATERS AND FLASH FLOODS OCCURRED IN SEPTEMBER 2007 IN SLOVENIA Mira Kobold, Mojca Sušnik, Mojca Robič, Florjana Ulaga, Bogdan Lalić Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia Vojkova 1b, Ljubljana, Slovenia [email protected] Abstract Heavy and abundant precipitation which captured the western, north-western and northern parts of Slovenia on 18 September 2007, caused quick rise of river discharges especially in the region of Baška grapa, Davča, the Cerkljansko and Škofja Loka hills. In that area the streams Selška Sora, Davča and Kroparica caused real destruction. The torrential streams and rivers flooded also in the region of Karavanke and foothills of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Kranj and Domžale fields, the Tuhinj valley and extensive Celje region. The Savinja was high in the middle and lower stream. The discharges of the tributaries Hudinja and Ložnica exceeded 100- year return period. The Dravinja flooded in the middle and lower stream. The return period of flood was between 50 and 100 years. On the most affected area the peak discharges exceeded the periodical maximum discharges measured at the water stations. The Sava was high mostly because of the high tributaries of the Sora, Bohinjska Bistrica, Lipnica, Tržiška Bistrica, Kamniška Bistrica and Savinja. The return period of the flood wave was around 20 years. Besides flooding many landslides were triggered, what is usual for Slovenia at such hydrological situations. The result of this catastrophe was enormous economic damage and loss of six people's lives. Keywords: flash flood, precipitation, HEC-1 model, return period, hydrograph, runoff coefficient, September 2007.

  • Oskrba S Pitno Vodo V Občini Kamnik
WATER SUPPLY IN THE KAMNIK COMMUNE Abstract There are 52 water supply systems registered in the area of the Kamnik commune. Only three of them ai e managed by official public services, while the rest are main- tained by local water supply committees. Almost 30.000 inhabitants live in this com- mune, 82% of whom are supplied by water from these systems. Besides these water sources, there are, at the foothills of carbonate rocks of the Kamnik Alps, a series of abundant water springs which should be protected for the future needs of drinking water supply. To this puipose. investigations are in progress into researching their hinterland for water reserves. For all investigated water sources proposals have been elaborated for their protection, but only three decrees have been issued by the responsible communal administrative body, so far. Three aquifers can be found in this area.
