Third place in Group F will be settled when Legia Warszawa host Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six. • Third-placed Sporting hold a two-point advantage over Legia and need only avoid defeat to secure their entry into the UEFA Europa League. • As for Jacek Magiera's bottom-placed Legia, they must beat Sporting to snatch third place – and, in the process, end their 21-year wait for a UEFA Champions League group stage victory. Previous meetings • Sporting overcame Legia 3-2 on aggregate when the teams faced off in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League round of 32. • Sporting scored late in both legs, drawing the first 2-2 in Warsaw only after an 88th-minute equaliser from substitute André Santos, then winning 1-0 in Lisbon through Matías Fernández's 84th-minute free-kick. • The line-ups for the first game in Poland, on 16 February 2012, were: Legia: Kuciak, Jędrzejczyk, Żewłakow, Komorowski, Wawrzyniak, Żyro, Vrdoljak, Rzeźniczak (Wolski 71), Gol, Rybus (Kosecki 61), Ljuboja (Hubník 82). Sporting: Rui Patrício, Pereira, Onyewu, Anderson Polga, Insúa, Carrillo (Santos 74), Rinaudo, Fernández, Schaars (Pereirinha 46), Izmailov (Carriço 46), Van Wolfswinkel. Match background

Legia • Legia are seeking their first UEFA Champions League group stage victory since October 1995, when they beat Blackburn Rovers FC 1-0 in Warsaw through a Jerzy Podbrożny goal. • Legia's five games in Group F have produced an unprecedented 32 goals – an average of 6.4 goals per game. At home they have lost 6-0 to Borussia Dortmund – the heaviest defeat in their European history – and held holders Real Madrid CF 3-3. • In conceding 24 goals so far, Legia have equalled the record of FC BATE Borisov, set in 2014/15, for most goals leaked in a UEFA Champions League group stage campaign. Sporting • Sporting defeated Legia 2-0 in Lisbon on matchday two. • Sporting's last away victory in the UEFA Champions League came on 9 December 2008 – a 1-0 win at FC Basel 1893 in which Adrien Silva featured as a second-half substitute. They have lost five of their six subsequent games in the competition proper. • Jorge Jesus's men remain without a point from their travels in this season's competition following narrow defeats at Madrid (1-2) and Dortmund (0-1). Coach and player links • Jesus's first European game as a coach, in July 1998, was a 1-1 draw for CF Estrela da Amadora at Polish club Ruch Chorzów in the 1998 UEFA Intertoto Cup. His Estrela side also drew the home leg 1-1 before edging the tie 4-2 on penalties. • Michał Pazdan and substitute Tomasz Jodłowiec were in the Poland side ousted on penalties by the Portugal of Rui Patrício, William Carvalho and Adrien Silva in the UEFA EURO 2016 quarter-finals. • Nemanja Nikolić scored past Rui Patrício for Videoton FC in a 3-0 victory over Sporting in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League group stage. Nikolić was subsequently on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat in the return fixture at the José Alvalade. • During a loan spell at Gil Vicente FC in 2011/12, Guilherme suffered a 6-1 league thrashing at Sporting but later prevailed 1-0 at the Alvalade in the Portuguese Cup. • Guilherme and João Pereira were both at SC Braga in 2009/10 but never started a first-team match together. Match facts Legia • Sebastian Szymański is suspended; Bartosz Bereszyński and Guilherme are a booking away from a ban. • Legia have scored four goals in three of their last four fixtures. • Aleksandar Prijovic has five goals in his past four appearances in all competitions.

3 Legia Warszawa - Sporting Clube de Portugal Wednesday 7 December 2016 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Stadion Wojska Polskiego, Warsaw

• The 8-4 loss to Dortmund on matchday five is Legia's only defeat in their last eight games, five of them wins. Sporting • Gonçalo Vieira and João Pereira are suspended, while Joel Campbell and Marvin Zeegelaar will incur a ban with their next booking. • Alan Ruiz scored his first goal for Sporting as the Lions defeated FC Arouca 1-0 on 30 November in their Portuguese League Cup group stage opener. • Luc Castaignos came off the bench during the second half against Arouca but left the field before full time with a knee problem. • Rúben Semedo was sent off seven minutes from time as Sporting triumphed 1-0 at Boavista FC on 26 November, Bas Dost with the winner. • Ezequiel Schelotto was ruled out for four weeks after limping off against Boavista with a left calf injury. Chapecoense commemoration Teams taking part in all of the matchday six UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches will observe a minute's silence to pay respect to the victims of last week's air disaster involving the Chapecoense team and accompanying delegation. The Brazilian club lost most of their players and coaching staff in the accident, which occurred in Colombia, where Chapecoense were due to play the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atlético Nacional. "European football is united in expressing its deepest sympathy to Chapecoense, the Brazilian Football Confederation [CBF], CONMEBOL and the families of all the victims," said UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. "This tragedy has shaken the world of football, and we would like to send our support to all of those affected by it."

7 Legia Warszawa - Sporting Clube de Portugal Wednesday 7 December 2016 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Stadion Wojska Polskiego, Warsaw Head coach Jacek Magiera Date of birth: 1 January 1977 Nationality: Polish Playing career: Raków Częstochowa, Legia Warszawa, Widzew Łódź (loan), Raków Częstochowa (loan), Cracovia Coaching career: Poland Under-18 (assistant), Legia Warszawa (assistant), Zagłębie Sosnowiec • A defensive midfielder, Magiera started his career with home-town side Raków Częstochowa, and was a member of the Poland side that won the UEFA European Under-16 Championship in Turkey in 1993. • Moved on to Legia, aged 20, in 1997, and spent the bulk of his playing career in Warsaw, scoring 16 goals in 176 Ekstraklasa appearances for the club and winning two Polish titles, as well as one Polish Cup. • Started his coaching career as an assistant with the national U18 team before rejoining Legia, where he was assistant to a number of coaches as well as boss of the club's reserve team. • Briefly worked as coach of Zagłębie Sosnowiec; appointed to coach Legia in September 2016 following the departure of Besnik Hasi. • As an aside from his football career, Magiera studied history, gaining a masters degree; his thesis was on the historical roots of football club badges. Jorge Jesus Date of birth: 24 July 1954 Nationality: Portuguese Playing Career: Sporting Clube de Portugal, GD Peniche, SC Olhanense, CF Os Belenenses, GD Riopele, Juventude SC, UD Leiria, Vitória FC, SC Farense, CF Estrela da Amadora, Benfica e Castelo Branco, SR Almancilense Coaching career: Amora FC, FC Felgueiras, CF Estrela da Amadora (twice), Vitória FC, Vitória SC, Moreirense FC, UD Leiria, CF Os Belenenses, SC Braga, SL Benfica, Sporting Clube de Portugal • A midfielder at Sporting, Jesus enjoyed a long if low-key career with a number of smaller Portuguese sides before moving into coaching with fourth division Amora after hanging up his boots in 1989, leading them to a title. Then led Felgueiras from the third division to the Liga in successive seasons, though they were relegated in his third campaign in 1995/96. • Further Liga experience came at hometown side Estrela da Amadora, Setúbal and Guimarães, though he endured another relegation with Moreirense in 2004/05. In 2006/07, he guided Belenenses to fifth place and the Portuguese Cup final, where despite losing to Sporting they earned a place in the UEFA Cup. • Even better followed at Braga in 2008/09 as he guided them to UEFA Intertoto Cup success and subsequently the UEFA Cup round of 16. A fifth-place Liga finish prompted Benfica to lure him back to Lisbon in 2009 and Jesus rewarded their faith with the league title and League Cup in his debut campaign. • After completing a hat-trick of Portuguese League Cup triumphs in 2012, Jesus's Benfica came tantalisingly close to an even bigger treble in 2013, only to finish runners-up in both the Portuguese Liga and Cup and lose the UEFA Europa League final to Chelsea FC. • Signed a two-year contract extension in June 2013 and led Benfica to another UEFA Europa League final the following season, although they again lost, this time to Sevilla FC. That disappointment was somewhat soothed by a clean sweep of the three domestic trophies, with another league and League Cup secured in 2014/15, during which Jesus became the Benfica coach with the most victories and the most league matches. Unexpectedly left to join Sporting in June 2015, taking the club to the Liga's runners-up spot in his first season – behind Benfica.

UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • In 2012/13, Chelsea became the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round to CSKA Moskva. • No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy, with Milan (1989, 1990) the last club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featured against Real Madrid on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldest outfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens in 2006/07. • Francesco Totti is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 38 years and 59 days, in Roma's 1-1 draw at CSKA Moskva on 25 November 2014. Ryan Giggs (37 years 290 days) was the previous record holder. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started for Anderlecht against Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195 days. He found the net in Olympiacos's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg on 1 October 1997. • Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen on 7 March 2012, a feat matched by Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Eleven more players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid CF on matchday six in 2015/16. • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, eclipsing his own mark of nine goals in 2013/14, which Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15. Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi and Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) managed eight. • Messi's hat-trick on matchday three of the 2016/17 competition was his seventh in the competition – two more than Ronaldo. • Barcelona have finished as group winners on 18 occasions, three more than Real Madrid and four more than Manchester United and FC Bayern München. • Bayern München (2 April 2013 to 27 November 2013) and Real Madrid (23 April 2014 to 18 February 2015) jointly hold the record for successive wins in the UEFA Champions League proper with ten. Bayern surpassed the previous mark of nine, set by Barcelona between 18 September 2002 and 18 February 2003. Anderlecht's 12 straight defeats (10 December 2003 to 23 November 2005) is also a competition record. • Six teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain (1994/95), Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid (2011/12 and 2014/15). • Seventeen teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, most recently Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC in 2015/16. • Real Madrid scored 20 goals in the 2013/14 group stage, equalling the competition record held jointly by Manchester United (1998/99) and Barcelona (2011/12). Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage, a tally matched by Real Madrid in 2011/12 and 2015/16, plus Bayern in 2015/16. • Only Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05) and Maccabi Haifa (2009/10) have failed to score in a group stage. • BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in 2014/15, a new record which was matched by Legia Warszawa on matchday five in 2016/17. The previous mark, 22, was held by Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and Nordsjælland (2012/13); Malmö FF shipped 21 in 2015/16. • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11), Monaco (2014/15) and Paris Saint-Germain (2015/16) all let in just one. • Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, a mark Steaua Bucureşti surpassed on matchday six in 2013/14. • RSC Anderlecht hold the unwanted record for successive defeats in the competition, group stage to final, having lost

12 in a row between December 2003 and November 2005. GNK Dinamo Zagreb are next with 11 consecutive losses, from September 2011 to December 2012; the Croatian club's matchday five reverse in 2016/17 was their tenth in a row. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: Zenit in 2013/14 and AS Roma in 2015/16. Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, eight teams have made it through with seven points: Legia Warszawa (1995/96), Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Liverpool (2001/02), Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus (both 2002/03), Rangers and Werder Bremen (2005/06) and Basel 1893 (2014/15). • Napoli failed to qualify from their group with 12 points in 2013/14, the highest total of any team not to reach the next stage when the top two in each section progressed. Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Borussia Dortmund (2002/03 – both second group stage), PSV Eindhoven (2003/04), Olympiacos and Dynamo Kyiv (both 2004/05), Werder Bremen (2006/07), Manchester City (2011/12), Chelsea and CFR 1907 Cluj (both 2012/13), Benfica (2013/14) and FC Porto (2015/16) all missed out with ten points. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München.
