Barthé, Jr. (Doctorate of Philosophy in History) Becoming American in Creole New Orleans: Family, Community, Labor and Schooling, 1896-1949 Summary: The Louisiana Creole community in New Orleans went through profound changes in the first half of the 20th-century. This work examines Creole ethnic identity, focusing particularly on the transition from Creole to American. In "becoming American," Creoles adapted to a binary, racialized caste system prevalent in the Jim Crow American South (and transformed from a primarily Francophone/Creolophone community (where a tripartite although permissive caste system long existed) to a primarily Anglophone community (marked by stricter black-white binaries). These adaptations and transformations were facilitated through Creole participation in fraternal societies, the organized labor movement and public and parochial schools that provided English-only instruction. -

The message of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is straightforward, and terrifying: The rise of liberalism had provided Jews with the tools to destroy institutions—the nobility, the church, the sanctity of marriage—whole. It announces Jewry’s triumph as imminent: The world order will fall into the hands of a cunning elite, who have schemed forever and are now fated to rule until the end of time. Students study written information about either Martin Luther King Jr. • Information Master or Malcolm X and then compare the backgrounds and views of the two men. 17A Students then use what they have learned to assume the roles of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X and debate methods for achieving African American equality. Afterward, students write a dialogue between the two men to reveal their differing viewpoints. Procedures at a Glance • Before class, decide how you will divide students into mixed-ability pairs. Use the diagram at right to determine where they should sit. • In class, tell students that they will write a dialogue reflecting the differing viewpoints of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X on the methods African Americans should use to achieve equal rights. • Divide the class into two groups—one representing each man. Abstract Afrocentrism is an intellectual, political, sociological, historical and cultural movement principally born out of Black people’s constant struggle against racism and oppression. Thus, this ideology dates back to the era of slavery and was born in the Black diaspora as a response to Eurocentrism which views the world from a European perspective, implying superiority of Europeans and more generally Westerners, namely Whites, over non-Europeans, namely non- Whites, especially Blacks. The United States of America being an ancient land of slavery, it is not surprising that Afrocentrism emerged within its society. It has been notably significant from the late 19th onwards and has impacted on different aspects of social life, including literature, politics, religion, economy, sport and music. Since the 1960’s, Afrocentrism has been particularly visible through music which has become an obvious new force in America. Indeed, in the 1960’s, it was an integral part of soul music which accompanied the civil rights movements. Then, it has integrated most genres which followed up such as funk, rap and modern rhythm and blues. -

In an Academic Voice: Antisemitism and Academy Bias Kenneth Lasson* Current events and the recent literature strongly suggest that antisemitism and anti-Zionism are often conflated and can no longer be viewed as distinct phenomena. The following paper provides an overview of con- temporary media and scholarship concerning antisemitic/anti-Zionist events and rhetoric on college campuses. This analysis leads to the con- clusion that those who are naive about campus antisemitism should exer- cise greater vigilance and be more aggressive in confronting the problem. Very few maintained their Muslim identities because the harsh conditions of slavery. Revitalization movements relying on Muslim symbolism emerged in the early 20th century. They were primarily concerned with the struggle against racism and oppression. The Moorish Science Temple of American and the Nation of Islam are the two most important of these movement. The haj was a transformative experience for Nation of Islam leaders Malcom X and Muhammad Ali. Realization that Islam is an inclusive faith that does not condone racism led both of them towards mainstream Sunni Islam and for Muhammad Ali to Sufi religious pluralism.1 Keywords: Nation of Islam, Moorish Science Temple, Revitalization Movement, Malcom X, Muhammad Ali Abstract: Sejarah Islam di Amerika sudah berakar sejak abad ke 18 dan awal 19, ketika belasan ribu budak dari Afrika dibawa ke wilayah yang sekarang bernama Amerika Serikat. The event, an annual opportunity for Blacks to hear lectures from the world's top Black scholars, is arranged through the mayor's office which funds and promotes the event through its yassir-boss-negro Lee Jasper. When London Mayor Ken Livingstone was informed of Dr. Martin's uncompromising analysis of the Black/Jewish relationship (see Martin's landmark book, The Jewish Onslaught), Jasper was ordered to "dis-invite" Martin-- an order which Jasper promptly and dutifully carried out. London's Blacks, outraged by Jasper's unreserved submission, appealed to other invitees to refuse their invitations unless Martin's invitation is restored. LOUIS FARRAKHAN - FOUR DECADES OF BIGOTRY IN HIS OWN WORDS by DR. HAROLD BRACKMAN SIMON WIESENTHAL CENTER JUNE 2020 wiesenthal.com INTRODUCTION This report was prepared amidst an unprecedented national reckoning about past and present racism. This reckoning was spurred on by protests in the streets of major US cities, charges that African Americans are victimized by systemic racism, and demands that whites acknowledge their unfair “white privilege.” Many prominent Americans, media and educational institutions, and corporations have begun to reflect publicly about their own biases and privileges. Celebrity Chelsea Handler misread this necessary moment of national reflection. Boasting nearly four million Instagram followers, she posted a nine-minute clip of Louis Farrakhan from The Phil Donahue Show which aired in 1990. Handler gushed, “I learned a lot from this video.” A-list stars like Sean Hayes, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Garner and Michelle Pfeiffer “liked” Handler’s post. Confronted by a growing crescendo of protest, Handler deleted the post and apologized, but the damage has been done. Many other prominent Americans, including politicians, social activists, NGO leaders, and cultural figures, continue to praise and endorse Minister Farrakhan, who for four decades has exploited every opportunity to inject anti-Semitism into our society’s mainstream. As a public service, the Simon Wiesenthal Center presents historian Dr. Harold Brackman’s compilation of Farrakhan’s screeds against the Jewish people and the Jewish religion—from the 1980s until today. 1 JUDAISM—THE “GUTTER RELIGION” In a 1984 speech recorded by a reporter for Chicago’s Sun-Times, Louis Farrakhan gave his own version of biblical history.
