Session 1 Asia- Media Dialogue: Focus on Central Asia 9:20 – 10:30 In the spirit of Media2020 Dialogues, this is a session for all members from all continents but starting from a new perspective. Instead of the traditional “East looks at West” and “West looks at East” discussions, this session will be Kazmedia led by a guest speaker from Central Asia, challenging our preconceived views Centre of “The Other” by dissecting the two global hemispheres from a Central Asian/East European perspective. If you thought you knew about your own continent or the other continent, this is a session to shake your worldview. Session 2 Perspectives on Diversity: Engaging Audiences & Serving 11:00 – 11:45 Communities Continuing the theme of cross-cultural as well as cross-continent understanding, invited delegates from east to west will present short examples of how they serve diverse audiences and communities in their own contexts. Session 3 Beyond the Hype of Big Data – why it’s important and why 11:45 – 12:30 broadcasters should be paying attention. From current policies to practical applications, we look at why Big Data matters and how it will change broadcasting as we know it. We will also examine the dangerous borderland Kazmedia between Big Data gathering and “identity harvesting”. How do we learn about Centre our audiences without infringing their privacy? Session 4 Factual vs Fake – how can real news compete? 14:00 – 15:00 Centred on fresh research into why fake or false news seems so popular today, especially in social media, this session looks at the reasons why and what methods established media can use to combat it. Expert panellists will examine both the phenomenon itself – and the underlying human qualities that drive it – as well as suggesting practical responses. It will ask questions such as:  Why do so many people seem to like fake news?  Is real news boring and, if so, do we need to improve?  How can we help educate our listeners and viewers to tell the difference? GWAP GENERATION WHAT? JAPAN. As part of the international campaign for Showcase the young generation, Generation What? Japan or “Nani-Gene” started on 6 15:00-15:30 April. In the first four days, more than 100,000 responses were received in the survey, which takes „a selfie‟ of their generation. The NHK Nani-Gene team join us to share the story of Japan‟s Millenials thus far. 15:30 – 16:00 Coffee Break Session 5 Beyond the Horizon - Blue Sky Thinking 16:00 – 17:00 Guest speakers from the two-days of dialogue give their own expert views on what our industry can expect next. They will speak on what media and broadcasting trends they can envisage in the next few years in their own fields of expertise, but then they will be challenged to step outside their own specialties to give informed opinions on what might be over the horizon in other areas of the media that we have not yet begun to consider. This session will involve participation by all delegates interested in blue sky thinking „outside the box‟!
