SUBJECT: TRANSMITTAL OF DRAFT MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING REGARDING GREAT KILLS PARK, SPRING CREEK PARK, AND DEAD HORSE BAY
Dear Ms. Cuzzolino:
Enclosed, for review and comment by the U.S. National Park Service (NPS), is the draft revised memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the NPS for coordination of response actions involving radioactive materials at the Gateway National Recreation Area sites in New York. The revisions in the enclosure add Dead Horse Bay, located in Brooklyn, New York, to the locations covered by the MOU and update principal representatives for the sites. The addition of Dead Horse Bay to sites covered by the MOU is a result of your recent notification that discrete sources of radium were discovered during site characterization activities during the summer of 2019.
We would greatly appreciate you contacting Mr. Christopher Grossman, the NRC Project Manager for the NPS sites, to let him know when you expect to provide comments on this document and to work towards finalizing the MOU.
