    1 REFLECTIONS Our Editorial. By Sian Hannagan Jun 2014 Birth in New Zealand has come a long way due to the efforts of the women and midwives before us. Since the Nurses Amendment Act was instated in 1990, women got a real choice in their place of birth. Annette King in her address at the 100 th anniversary of Midwifery in NZ in 2004, said “Although the amendment to the Nurses Act was minor, the consequences for midwifery were significant. The most important outcome of that piece of legislation for midwifery was that it permitted midwives to operate as fully independent providers of pregnancy and childbirth services without reference to or supervision by medical practitioners.“ This amendment signalled a huge change in the birth culture of New Zealand. Prior to this change, birth looked very different. I remember talking to my mother in law about her births. When she was birthing my husband, she was told by the nurses to “hold on” and “keep her legs crossed” so that the Doctor had time to arrive and deliver her baby. He turned up, just in the nick of time, and smoked a cigarette while he watched her birth her baby and left shortly thereafter. He got paid a tidy sum for his attentive care. With the nurses amendment act, medical practitioners lost their monopoly on funding, causing the power balance to shift, the result being more choice for women. However, as we enter the 21 st century, while the same law is in place, we still have to overcome obstacles when it comes to our view of birth.

    26 April 2020 Network 10 broadcast advertising delivery guidelines Network 10 material deadlines Material deadlines are in place to ensure the 10 Traffic team have enough time for the important checks and processes involved in getting your commercials to air. Unforeseen circumstances and problems can arise at any time, so it is imperative that deadlines supplied to you by the Traffic team are adhered to. There are three deadlines for the week prior to your activity going to air. They are: Network 10 A ViacomCBS • Material instruction deadline: The date by which you must advise the Traffic Team Company what key numbers you wish to run. Any time, date, channel or program restrictions should be included in the instructions. • CAD deadline – the date by which you must have Free TV classify your commercials. Commercials cannot go to air without CAD approval. • Material delivery deadline – the date by which the material for your commercials must be ‘on hand’ or delivered. There are many quality control and technical checks that need to be done before broadcast. Once material is fully on hand with Adstream or Peach IMD, it still takes time to be ingested on 10’s servers. The Traffic team will be in touch with you the week prior to your deadlines. If you are unsure of the deadlines, unsure you can meet deadlines or require an extension for your week’s activity, please enquire through the Traffic team using this email address [email protected]. Her radical adaptation of Henry Lawson’s The Drover’s Wife broke new ground for Australian theatre. Among its string of awards was the NSW Premier’s Literary Award for best drama, whose judges described it as “a declaration of war on Australia’s wilful historical amnesia”. Purcell, a Goa-Gunggari-Wakka Wakka Murri woman, uses the full arsenal of drama to tell new stories. In 2016 she co-directed Cleverman, which screened on ABC TV and meshed Aboriginal dreamtime stories into contemporary sci-fi genre. She also co-directed The Secret Daughter, which screened on Seven Network last year and has now been signed for a second series. Starring Jessica Mauboy, it marks the first time a commercial network has put an Indigenous Australian as the lead in a drama series. Season one was the second-highest rating drama for the year. What the panel says: She’s an Indigenous woman with a very political view. The Drover’s Wife was an incredible achievement and will make for a brilliant film.
