Margo Lampert THE WESTCHESTER JEWISH COUNCIL The Westchester Jewish Council (formerly the Westchester Jewish Conference) is the central communicating, coordinating, convening advisory and resource body for the county’s Jewish community, representing over 140 Jewish organizations and serving 150,000 Jews. As Westchester’s Jewish community relations organization, the Council unites Westchester Jewry with the State of Israel, fosters communication among Jewish organizations and cultivates and strengthens relations with other ethnic groups, elected officials and the community at large. The Council encourages participation in Jewish life and supports and develops initiatives and programs that meet existing and emerging Jewish communal needs. Abramson Mona Abramson It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 44th Anniversary Gala of the Westchester David A. Alpert Liat Altman Jewish Council. We gather here tonight to honor these outstanding leaders in our community, Ron Arsham Harold Aspis the Singer family - Saul, one of the founders and early presidents of the WJC, and two of Ellen Jancko-Baken Michelle Beinhacker his sons, David and Daniel, along with WJC board members, David A. Alpert and Arlene Betty Berenson Samuel E. Berger Kleinberg. Tonight’s honorees richly deserve our recognition and appreciation, having Joyce Claar Steve Cony contributed to the community in innumerable ways through their volunteerism, leadership and Laurie Davidowitz David Eppinger prominent philanthropic support for so many organizations. They each have, and continue Karen Firestone Jonathan Flaxer to work tirelessly to make the Westchester Jewish community a uniquely vibrant model of Michelle Gewanter Lisa Ginsberg collaboration and cooperation. Saul, David, Dan, David and Arlene truly embody the Cantor Margot Goldberg Sharon Gorman philosophy of leading by example. And tonight, we are honored to show them our enormous Anita Greenwald Michele Gregson admiration, respect and gratitude. Rabbi Daniel Gropper Bonnie Hagen Gennifer Kelly We proudly come together tonight to also celebrate the work and accomplishments of Arlene Kleinberg Stuart Kolbert the Westchester Jewish Council, and especially to highlight the ever-growing need and Elizabeth Lampert Betsy Miller Landis importance of that work in the area of security at a time when, sadly, Jews across the globe, Marti Michael Michael Mittelman and those here at home, are experiencing an alarming epidemic of anti-Semitic violence. Bernstein, z”l was a well-known and admired leader in the Westchester Jewish community. Some of the organizations that benefited from his leadership were UJA-Federation of New York/Westchester and the Jewish Community Center of Harrison. Julian was also a long-serving Executive Committee member and board member of the Westchester Jewish Council. Julian believed that doing tzedakah was just as important as giving tzedakah. The Westchester Jewish Council Distinguished Service Awards, named in memory of Julian, is our recognition and appreciation of his visionary leadership, guidance, and friendship. It is the highest honor we can bestow on those with whom we celebrate this evening. The Westchester Jewish Council connects and safeguards Westchester’s Jewish communities and strengthens relationships among Jewish organizations and other ethnic and faith based groups, elected officials, Israel and the community at large. The Council provides a wide range of programming, services and resources to help strengthen our community. JCF facilitates philanthropy for more than 8,000 people associated with 4,100 funds, totaling $2 billion in charitable assets.
