  • 2020 Grants Book
REPORT OF GRANTS AWARDED 2019-2020 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction 2 What We Do — And How We Do It 2 Where Our Dollars Go 3 Fiscal Year 2020 Grants by Agency: Full Listing 4 Named Endowments and Spending Funds 40 2020 Leadership List 46 4 INTRODUCTION A YEAR LIKE NO OTHER In a typical year, this grants book would be an important record of our shared investments in our community. The year 2020 has been anything but typical. While this report still documents our collective grant making, reflecting our commitment to the highest degree of programmatic integrity and true fiscal transparency, it is also a testament to the heroic efforts that have kept critical services and mission-driven programs going despite a global pandemic. For so many individuals, day-to-day life is a regular series of obstacles and uncertainties. Multiply that by millions of people impacted by Covid-19, and you have some sense of what has been required to assure that we are remaining true to UJA-Federation’s mission to care, connect, and inspire. So, while this is a report of our annual accomplishment, it is also a tribute to the unwavering determination of professionals and volunteers within UJA, at agencies and in neighborhoods, on front lines and on screens, who have simply refused to allow a novel virus to alter decades-old commitments in New York, in Israel, and around the world. This fortitude required stunning acts of generosity. We continue to honor the system created by UJA’s founders that not only has stood the test of time but continues to shape the future of our collective story.

  • Silver Anniversary 25Th Annual Julian Y
Silver Anniversary 25th Annual Julian Y. Bernstein Distinguished Service Awards Ceremony Thursday, June 4, 2020 12 Sivan 5780 Julian Y. Bernstein Julian Y. Bernstein, z”l was a well-known and admired leader in the Westchester Jewish community. Some of the organizations that benefited from his leadership were UJA-Federation of New York/Westchester and the Jewish Community Center of Harrison. Julian was also a long-serving Executive Committee member and board member of the Westchester Jewish Council. Julian believed that doing tzedakah was just as important as giving tzedakah. The Westchester Jewish Council Distinguished Service Awards, named in memory of Julian, is our recognition and appreciation of his visionary leadership, guidance, and friendship. It is the highest honor we can bestow on those with whom we celebrate this evening. The Westchester Jewish Council connects and safeguards Westchester’s Jewish communities and strengthens relationships among Jewish organizations and other ethnic and faith based groups, elected officials, Israel and the community at large. The Council provides a wide range of programming, services and resources to help strengthen our community. Through our Roundtables the Westchester Jewish Council brings professional and lay leaders together to share information, form friendships and strengthen communications and connections. Bonds are formed and best practices are shared on a variety of relevant topics and issues. The expanding list of roundtables, some of which are done in partnership with our member organizations, includes Synagogue Executive Directors, Synagogue Presidents, Agency Presidents, Government Relations, Youth Professionals and Volunteers, Marketing Professionals & Volunteers, Israel Volunteers, Interfaith Volunteers, Parents of Lone Soldiers, Security Volunteers and Liaisons, Mosaic/LGBTQ Inclusion, Jewish Continuity and more.

  • 2020 JCF Giving Report
Jewish Communal Fund GIVING 2020 REPORT ABOUT JEWISH COMMUNAL FUND Jewish Communal Fund (JCF) is the largest and most active network of Jewish funders in the nation. JCF facilitates philanthropy for more than 8,000 people associated with 4,100 funds, totaling $2 billion in charitable assets. In FY 2020, our generous Fundholders granted out $536 million—27% of our assets—to charities in all sectors. The impact of JCF’s network of funders on the Jewish community and beyond is profound. In addition to an annual unrestricted grant to UJA-Federation of New York, JCF’s Special Gifts Fund (our endowment) has granted more than $20 million since 1999 to support programs in the Jewish community at home and abroad, including kosher food pantries and soup kitchens, day camp scholarships for children from low-income homes, and programs for Holocaust survivors with dementia. These charities are selected with the assistance of UJA-Federation of NY. For a simpler, easier, smarter way to give, look no further than the Jewish Communal Fund. To learn more about JCF, visit jcfny.org or call us at (212) 752-8277.
