During this period, over 27,000 attacks against Israeli citizens and residents have been recorded, and over 1000 Israeli citizens and residents have lost their lives in these attacks. Out of these, 155 (May 2007) attacks were suicide bombings, carried out against Israeli targets by 178 (August 2007) suicide terrorists (male and female). (It should be noted that from 1993 up to the beginning of the conflict in September 2000, 38 suicide bombings were carried out by 43 suicide terrorists). Despite the fact that suicide bombings constitute 0.6% of all attacks carried out against Israel since the beginning of the conflict, the number of fatalities in these attacks is around half of the total number of fatalities, making suicide bombings the most deadly attacks. From the beginning of the conflict up to August 2007, there have been 549 fatalities and 3717 casualties as a result of 155 suicide bombings. Over the years, suicide bombing terrorism has become the Palestinians’ leading weapon, while initially bearing an ideological nature in claiming legitimate opposition to the occupation.

    The Palestinian Counseling Center A Rapid Assessment of the Needs of 14 Marginalized Areas in the West Bank during the COVID-19 Pandemic May 2020 This paper reports the results of a needs assessment carried out by the Palestinian Counseling Center (PCC) in 14 areas in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Area C: Silwan, Al-Issawiya, Al-Tur, Kafr Aqab, Qalandia, Beit Sakarya, Beita, Duma, Qaryout, Jayyous, Qalqilya, Alfasayel, and Alzbaidat. The PCC collected information about the 14 areas included in the needs assessment in order to identify the priorities of the populations and contribute to building sector plans to meet their needs. The necessity of this needs assessment arose from the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a declaration of a state of emergency on 5 March 2020 and a total lockdown on 22 March. This has affected the income of over 453 thousand families who may not be able to meet their basic needs if the lockdown continues, with daily-wage workers and workers in Israel being the most vulnerable in this situation. 14 phone interviews were conducted with Community Based Organization (CBO) representatives in the target areas. The needs of each area were collected at multiple levels, including health, mental health, environmental, and educational needs. Summary of Findings See Annex 1 for details of each region's need The results indicates that the residents of the regions have new, emergent needs resulting from the spread of the COVID-19 virus pandemic. In addition, there are needs that existed before the emergency, especially among the communities living in the Jordan Valley, such as Alzbaidat and Alfasayel.

Fairchild Ruggles Professor Colin Flint ABSTRACT Struggle over space is at the core of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. Different actors are involved in this struggle. The Israeli occupation with its planning system, and the Israeli settlers, since the beginning of the occupation, has been enforcing different policies of using space to achieve control over the Palestinians. The Palestinian authority with its planning system under the Israeli policies of control does not have enough power to deal with the different spatial problems that face planning endeavor. Palestinian planners find their autonomy challenged and abilities limited under Israeli policies of control. Among different actors in the spatial struggle in the Palestinian Territories (PT) are Palestinian people who despite their deep suffering from the Israeli policies of control continue making claim to their rights to use space through their spatial practices. Within this complexity of struggle over space in the context of occupation, between actors seeking control and those who resist that control and groups claiming their conflicting rights to the same space, I aim to understand whether and how spatial planning could play a role by understanding the relationship between space, power, and planning.

This week, in a new crime of excessive use of lethal force, IOF killed a Palestinian during the suppression of a peaceful protest in Ras al-Teen area near the eastern entrance to al-Mughayyir village, northeast of Ramallah. PCHR notes the recurrence of similar crimes, as PCHR’s staff documented the killing of 22 Palestinian civilians, including 6 children and a woman, by IOF since the beginning of 2020 in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

This monitoring report focuses on two key elements2. • An outline of the key developments in the construction and path of the Barrier up to 7 March; • A survey of access through the Barrier via the gates constructed by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) In June 2002 the Israeli Government commenced construction of the West Bank Barrier as a security measure to protect its citizens from Palestinian suicide attacks. While part of the Barrier lies on the 1949 Armistice or the Green Line, the bulk of the Barrier intrudes into the West Bank. The constructed Barrier is currently 182 km long and consists of fences, ditches, razor wire, groomed trace sands, electronic monitoring system, patrol roads, and a no-go buffer zone.
