Minnick (Coopersville, Michigan) comes in not only with June’s Lunker of the Month, but the largest registered fish of the season. Adam and his best fishing partner Scott were fishing the Elk Chain. He describes the Chain as being 16 miles long, an aggregation of large and small lakes. Cut off from Lake Michigan years ago by a dam to create the lakes, the Chain holds a pure strain of lake trout and has deep clear water in many of the lakes. Adam and Scott had planned it as a four-day trip of fishing, but weather was a factor. The day I spoke with Jeff, he had his daughter, Devyn, out on the water when she caught her very first muskie. Keep it up Jeff! WOMEN’S TOP 25: Anita Doenz, of Chapter 33, is from Grasston, Minnesota, and recently joined Muskies, Inc. Although she is new to Muskies, Inc., she isn’t new to muskie fishing. She is at the top of this category with her very first muskie entered in the Lunge Log. Anita’s 51.5 inch was caught on Lake Vermilion at the same spot where she caught a 53 incher last year, while fishing with her boyfriend and net man Tony. She was not a member at the time. This day Anita was fishing a weedy bay throwing a white Fudally “Candy Spin” which she likes to use most of the time. The fish hit rather lightly and at first she wasn’t sure what she had on, but then the fish took off and she had a good tussle. Welcome to Muskies, Inc. Anita and congratulations on your very first entry. WOMEN’S DIVISION: Lisa Tenney at this time seems to be a runaway winner in the Women’s Division, with 44 fish registered, WOW! We featured Lisa in our last edition and she has a tremendous passion for the sport, this woman loves muskie fishing. You’re doing great Lisa, keep it up. She is now leading the &ROOHHQ6WDFN /RUDLQ 2+ Junior Division with 18 fish. She tells me that her best day came on Lake St. Clair while fishing with her father. These are special days for her as dad lets her have most of the fish strikes. On this day Adison caught a 46.25-incher, but was more proud of the 40.25 tiger muskie she caught and the two more fish to boot on the same day. The big fish came on a Tuff Shad while the tiger came on a Blue Water. Adison is very shy, but her main comment was, “Muskie Fishing is Cool”. Apparently she catches more fish on a Wiley’s bait as that was the first lure she mentioned. Her home body of water is Chautauqua Lake. Keep up the good work Adison, and yes, muskie fishing is cool! HYBIRD TOP 25: Ken Worel is a long time member of Muskies, Inc. and is known for catching big muskies on Vermilion Lake. In fact according to Ken he may be close to 100 fish over 50 inches for his career. The day he caught this fish he was fishing the upper tail section on the Mississippi River above the dam in Itasca County, near Grand Rapids. He was fishing from shore with hip boots throwing his famous “Zippity-Do-Dah”. His reward was a 48.75-inch tiger muskie that may have been a state record. Ken said they weighed and measured the fish and on a recheck with certified scale, he was a couple of pounds over the record. Unfortunately for us, we cannot see the fish as Ken did not get a photo. FLY TOP 25 & FLY DIVISION (combined): I am going to group these two categories together as this division has only a handful of anglers and not much has changed from last issue. Gordon Dixon and Adam Hoepler still stand as the leaders in this category. We would certainly like to see more anglers work this division. Good Luck and Good Fishin’ - Fred E.sox Brogle
