Building for the future

The first of many planned primary school events took place last month, providing future pupils of Eastern High with an opportunity to tell us what they think the new buildings for the school should look like.

We had an enthusiastic audience of pupils from local primary schools including Oakfield, Willowbrook, Meadowlane, Trowbridge and Rumney Primary, who got very involved in the Design Workshop.

They told us their likes, dislikes and thoughts for what the future should look like.

The pupils were shown pictures of different schools and designs and had lively discussions of whether they would want elements of each for their school. They were then asked to draw their own design of how they would like their school to feel and to look.

There were a lot of animated conversations around layouts including toilets, where they should be and whether they should be separate boys/girls wash hand basins or not. Also, the library space had a mixed response with some saying they needed peaceful place to relax but others not so keen. How the new build can to be a flagship state of the art school, one of the first support a safe and positive environment for learning for Cardiff. It’s great to see the pupils themselves were also discussed. getting involved and bringing their energy, creativity and enthusiasm to the table. The feedback from the pupils is important as we start looking at designs for the new build, which is on track More sessions with primary school pupils are planned for to be ready for September 2016. The school promises the autumn term; we will keep you posted.
