We are seeking a business development manager to contribute to the continued growth and success of the firm. You will lead business development and bids for architectural and interiors projects in the Sydney Studio, working closely with the senior leadership team, including the Directors.

Your role will include carrying out research into prospective markets and clients across our sectors. You will manage the pipeline of potential projects and the production of proposals and submissions.

Bates Smart offers a collegiate working environment, and you would work in close collaboration with and provide support to the other members of the marketing and business development team. To be considered for this role, you must have previous experience in the architecture or property sector, preferably as an architect. This may be your first role in business development - understanding of the architecture and design professions will be prioritised over previous business development experience.

Specific tasks will include:

Industry relationships and knowledge • Work with leadership team to identify target sectors and develop sector plans • Undertake formal and informal research into target sectors • Maintain knowledge of current market condition in target sectors, including influence of government policy and market sentiment • Maintain industry network to assist in knowledge gathering • Represent Bates Smart at both client meetings and industry events • Arrange client meetings as required • Work with leadership team to identify key clients by sector • Contribute to calendars of national and international events • Maintain client and company information in Newforma and Salesforce (training provided)

Identify and track opportunities • Identify and track key opportunities in target sectors, using current systems including Newforma • Strategise for positioning and inclusion on tender lists and bid teams • Assess opportunities against Bates Smart project criteria • Deliver clear go/no-go recommendations

Submissions • Lead strategy on all architecture and interiors submissions and bids • Demonstrate an aptitude for writing and produce written text and other content as required • Oversee production of architecture bids, coordinating with Bid Coordinator • Assist in drafting fees, coordinating with Practice Management • Review project contracts, seeking commentary from Finance Director and Practice Management

Coordination • Coordinate collateral for presentations and pitches with graphic design team • Provide advice to communications team for public relations, media and social media campaigns • Coordinate with practice manager and studio directors in regards to fees and teams to be included in submissions

Reporting and meetings • Report to Sydney Directors/Leadership Group • Attend and report to Studio Practice Management meetings, held weekly • Attend and report to National Business Development and Marketing meetings, held monthly
