Investments in Culture: in preference smart investments, and/or if fully embedded in wider development and geographical strategies (RIS3 & Macro-regional “MRSs” and Sea Basin strategies “SBSs”). Cultural heritage can be associated to investments in Tourism (MRSs). Cultural Tourism & Culture through the Smart Specialisation Strategies mainly identified as CCIs eg. Service innovation, clusters, incubators, E- content (ICT) investments, new innovative business models, business integration processes with innovative models (dynamic packaging, marketing networking, differentiated tourism, security & information systems, multimedia communication), RE-USE Recovery of unused structures linked to traditions / history of the territory (rural buildings, mills, etc.) 2014-2020 ERDF allocations that include cultural heritage (in million EUR): Total 6.3 billion of which: -most in TO6 "preserving and protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency“ (4.8 billion); -TO3 for SME competitiveness (346 million); - and TO8 " promoting sustainable and quality employment and supporting labour mobility" (247 million) ERDF allocation to tourism and cultural heritage 2014-2020 Higher budget for countries with specific programmes & policy Culture and INTERREG 2014-2020 2000-2006+2007-2013: INTERREG's most popular topics In the former programming period 2007-2013 Interreg investments in “cultural heritage and arts” reflected 10 % of the overall Interreg budget (EUR 1.2 B) Types of Cooperation Programmes Draft Commission Implementing decision on cooperation programmes 2014-2020: E.T.C. "Creativity is the merging of different profiles of people and entities” Take away messages: With EYCH 2018 Culture has gained momentum at European Union level. European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg and the macro-regional strategies) contributed effectively in the objectives of the 2018 EYCH. In modern economies, interregional and macro-regional investments in creative industries and cultural clusters could have an influence in industrial transformative processes. Both the private and the public sectors in various countries have cooperated and resulted in successful EU cultural projects. “Connecting Cultures, Connected Citizens - EYCH 2018”– 10-20 December 2018, Berlaymont Brussels Macro-regional strategies and Cultural Heritage Transnational cooperation and MRSs Four macro-regions are identified throughout the European territory, covering large areas across national borders.
