The 3-day work taster is part of the 7 step model and is probably the most important step to prepare young men for employment. Multiple work tasters were completed in London and the South West with a wide variety of companies from different sectors including Finance, TV and Media, the Construction Industry, IT, Hospitality and many others. Many of our young men were employed by the company following their work taster or having had that OUR experience were able to find employment in another industry. WORK TASTER STORIES Sean arrived on the Key4life At Risk programme in Bristol with a drug charge. He struggled with anger issues and had very low self-esteem and confidence. He engaged whole heartedly with the programme and is completely transformed. He attended several work tasters including with an estate agent and working with Cabot Circus. Sean is now a trainee manager with Bouygues, he says “I found the 7am start hard to get used to but I have loved the chance to learn about the different areas of construction. Companies play a central role in supporting Key4Life and the young men, whilst at the same time often developing the skills of their own staff too. The relationship can take on many forms as highlighted below: KPMG is in its second year of a national partnership with Key4Life providing training for mentors and impact coaches. KPMG employee We and our young men are indebted to them for their continued support. 10 11 OUR HIGHLIGHTS GALA EVENING AT GRAY’S INN In May we celebrated seven years of incredible achievements, supporting young men break the cycle of crime and gain sustained employment, with a very special fundraising evening hosted by Alex Beresford, ITV. Multiple Grammy-winning musical genius Nile Rodgers & Chic, lit up the stage in a special performance, playing feel-good classics like ‘We are Family’ and ‘Le Freak’. The event not only raised over £100k – crucial funds for our work, but also provided a platform for the official launch of the YOUNITED Flag Campaign. YOUNITED FLAG CAMPAIGN The YOUNITED flag campaign is a movement and a call to action to businesses of all sizes in the UK to offer employment to young people with an offending background. Companies who employ offenders will receive the YOUNITED flag kitemark. David Gauke, former Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor, added his weight to the campaign saying: “It’s a pleasure to support Key4Life and the YOUNITED campaign. I’m a firm believer in the power of work to change people’s lives. Work can provide dignity and purpose as well as the money to pay bills and support family life.

The LEA encourages community and business partnerships that enhance and supplement the public education system. This week going out to 3,675 organisations and people in the Industry, many people ask why this number changes - well we have people leave and join each week and of course some companies buy out other companies or people leave companies. This week’s Bids Grants and Funds has some 38 Pages. Current apprenticeship frameworks in Health and Social Care and in Care Leadership and Management will be withdrawn by Skills for Care and Development on 29 December 2017. In-line with government changes, the planned closure comes after the approval of the new employer-led apprenticeship standards at levels 2, 3, 4 and 5. Level 2 and 3 are already open for registration and level 4 and 5 are anticipated in the very near future. This means that no one will be able to start an apprenticeship on the framework after the end of this calendar year, and all apprentices starting after that date will do so through the new standards. The world of Training and Development has been turned upside down this however is sometimes a perfect time to take advantage. We have run Peer Meet Ups for some time and indeed we have our next one scheduled for Birmingham on Thursday the 25th of May.

    The Scope and Activities of 501(c)(3) Supporting Organizations By Thomas H. Pollak and Jonathan D. Durnford National Center for Charitable Statistics at the Urban Institute May 31, 2005 SUMMARY OF FINDINGS Supporting organizations provide a broad array of services, including grants and other financial benefits, to the organizations they support. This study found that nearly 92 percent of the large supporting organizations with no apparent grants in our sample did, in fact, provide significant financial services and benefits to their supported organizations. Complex business and legal reasons similar to those found in the for-profit world appear to lie behind the activities of most of these organizations. OVERVIEW In section 509(a)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, Congress established a category of public charities commonly referred to as “supporting organizations” that are operated “exclusively for the benefit of, to perform the functions of, or to carry out the purposes of one or more [public charities].” The implementing regulations written by the Treasury Department are extensive. They include numerous definitions and examples and span more than eight pages of small type in a popular version of federal tax regulations. (See I.R.C. § 1.509(a)-4 in RIA Federal Tax Regulations.) The law and its corresponding regulations give broad latitude to the types of support that such organizations may provide to their supported organizations. Supporting organizations are grouped by statute into three types, conveniently called Types I, II, and III. Types I and II are closely controlled by their supported organization or organizations. Type I supporting organizations are “operated, supervised or controlled by” their “parent” supported organizations.
