• Feminism, Postfeminism, Liz Lemonism: Comedy and Gender Politics on 30 Rock
Genders 1998-2013 Genders 1998-2013 Genders 1998-2013 Home (/gendersarchive1998-2013/) Feminism, Postfeminism, Liz Lemonism: Comedy and Gender Politics on 30 Rock Feminism, Postfeminism, Liz Lemonism: Comedy and Gender Politics on 30 Rock May 1, 2012 • By Linda Mizejewski (/gendersarchive1998-2013/linda-mizejewski) [1] The title of Tina Fey's humorous 2011 memoir, Bossypants, suggests how closely Fey is identified with her Emmy-award winning NBC sitcom 30 Rock (2006-), where she is the "boss"—the show's creator, star, head writer, and executive producer. Fey's reputation as a feminist—indeed, as Hollywood's Token Feminist, as some journalists have wryly pointed out—heavily inflects the character she plays, the "bossy" Liz Lemon, whose idealistic feminism is a mainstay of her characterization and of the show's comedy. Fey's comedy has always focused on gender, beginning with her work on Saturday Night Live (SNL) where she became that show's first female head writer in 1999. A year later she moved from behind the scenes to appear in the "Weekend Update" sketches, attracting national attention as a gifted comic with a penchant for zeroing in on women's issues. Fey's connection to feminist politics escalated when she returned to SNL for guest appearances during the presidential campaign of 2008, first in a sketch protesting the sexist media treatment of Hillary Clinton, and more forcefully, in her stunning imitations of vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, which launched Fey into national politics and prominence. [2] On 30 Rock, Liz Lemon is the head writer of an NBC comedy much likeSNL, and she is identified as a "third wave feminist" on the pilot episode.

The half hour single camera serialized comedy has a 12 episode order and will premiere in 2016. John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky (“Silicon Valley,” “King Of The Hill”) will write and executive produce the series. Also executive producing are Michael Rotenberg (“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”) of 3 Arts Entertainment and Troy Miller (“Arrested Development”), who is producing the show via Dakota Pictures. The comedy, revolving around America’s most successful Hispanic American comedian, explores how George struggles between his two worlds and crises – often of his own making. YNET article on The Last Poker Game (Translated from Hebrew) October 8, 2017 By Amir Bogen IS THERE A DOCTOR ON THE SET? AN INTERVIEW WITH THE FAMOUS SCIENTIST WHO DECIDED TO DIRECT A FILM AT THE AGE OF 70 In the eighth decade of his life, the esteemed researcher and scientist Howard Weiner decided to realize a dream and direct a film. "I always had something creative about me," he says in an interview with YNET on the screening of his film "The Last Poker Game" at the Haifa Film Festival. He spoke about his ties to Israel, "I once considered settling in Israel, but it wasn’t feasible.” He then spoke about the late Martin Landau and the sex scenes in the movie, "Just because you are old, doesn’t mean that you don’t like sex.” For most of his life, Howard Weiner looked at reality through the lens of a microscope. As a physician and a researcher, he closely examines human organs and tissues, bacteria and viruses. This is the career he chose 52 years ago when he was admitted to medical school. But now that he is in the eighth decade of his life with countless achievements and awards that have made him a world renowned expert in neurology and immunology, he pursued one of his dreams. He shifted his gaze from the microscope lens to that of the movie camera, and from there to the big screen. Thus, the doctor became a director, and his first feature film "The Last Poker Game" merges his areas of expertise.
