    Association for Industrial Archaeology Annual Conference Brighton 2015 Industrial Archaeology Tour Notes for Sussex Compiled and Edited by Robert Taylor Sussex Industrial Archaeology Society Welcome to Sussex We trust you will enjoy the tours which extend across the county from Goodwood in the west to Hastings in the east and north to Gatwick. We have tried to fit as many visits as possible, but as a consequence the timings for all the tours are tight, so please ensure you return to the coach no later than the time stated by the tour leader and note any instructions they or the driver may give. Most of the places that we visit are either public open spaces or sites, buildings, or structures that are open to the public on a regular basis. Please be aware that all tour members have a responsibility to conduct themselves in a safe and appropriate manner, so do take care when boarding or alighting from vehicles, particularly if crossing in front of or behind the vehicle where one’s view may be obstructed. Similarly care should be exercised when ascending or descending steps or steep slopes and paths that may additionally be slippery when wet. Where we are visiting a site that is not usually open to the public, further instructions will be provided by the Tour Guide when we get to the site. To help plan your day we have detailed a range of useful information for your convenience. The main gate is on Eaton Road adjacent to The Sussex Cricketer pub. The other gate is located at the North end of Palmeira Avenue at the North East corner of the ground. Either gate may be used to enter The 1st Central County Ground, however, ticket holders for the Spen Cama Pavilion or Jointing Tech South West Stand are advised to enter the ground via the Eaton Road gate. SEA LIFE family stand and general admission ticket holders are advised to enter via the North East gate in Palmeira Avenue. Cash and card sales are available from the Eaton Road gate. MONEY: There is no ATM on site, the closest one being within The Sussex Cricketer pub at the main entrance to the ground (fees apply). Church Road and George Street are both within walking distance and have cash machines with all the major banks. Card payments for merchandise, tickets, food and beverages are available at the majority of outlets, including contactless payment to assist with the speed of queues.

    Davigdor Road, Brighton Transport statement – post operative care centre Donncha Murphy [email protected] Introduction The site is situated between Davigdor Road to the south and Montefiore Road to the west. To the north is Lyon Close, which currently serves commercial and industrial units, but has planning permission for residential and office floor space. A rail line connecting Hove and Brighton stations runs directly above this, and the site benefits being located a 15-minute walk from both stations. Site location The site borders the Montefiore Private Hospital, which is generally over four storeys to the east of the site. Preece House is adjacent to the southern boundary and provides office floor space over three storeys. To the west is a vacant site which has consent for residential and office accommodation which was approved under Application BH2018/02916. Additionally, local large green areas consist of Hove Green to the north and St Ann’s Well Gardens to the south. The covers an area of approximately 0.11Ha / 1133m2. The existing site serves as a car park for adjacent Palmer and Harvey (P&H) House which is located approximately 8m from the south western site boundary. The car park is now surplus to requirements. The existing vehicular and pedestrian access into the site is via Davigdor Road and runs through an undercroft formed by P&H House. The application proposes a five-storey building with roof terrace and external landscaping. Planning Background The site to the west benefits from a prior approval consents to convert the existing office building into 92 apartments (LPA reference: BH2019/01739).
