Our new building will significantly enhance the FTI learning environment through a larger bais 02 medrash, dining hall, and classrooms, and the addition of enrichment rooms, a computer lab, an advanced science lab, and student and staff lounges. The extraordinary total-chinuch experience that FTI offers draws students from all over the east 03 coast. Currently we don’t have any on-site residential facilities. The new campus will provide ample on-site residential space for our students. FTI operates 7 days a week, 11 months a year. A full-sized indoor athletic facility is critical for our 04 students to enjoy sports and recreation throughout all seasons. Improved office and conference space will provide the administrative staff and faculty with a more 05 conducive work environment. The current physical presentation of FTI does not accurately portray the incredible inner experience 06 of the yeshiva. A more physically impressive school building would be more reflective of the high caliber program of FTI and would likely attract a broader array of students to consider FTI for their high school journey. The new FTI complex will strengthen Jewish awareness and identity in the region by creating 07 broader educational opportunities for the wider community. With the creation of an ample and inviting space, the yeshiva can expand its impact to the more than 60,000 local Jewish residents through community oriented classes, seminars, and activities. A permanent FTI building will contribute to the growth of the Cherry Hill Jewish community by 08 significantly adding to the infrastructure. As new families move into the community, both FTI and all local Jewish institutions will benefit. The current Beis Medrash and dining room are housed in modular buildings with limited duration 09 permits subject to expire soon, after which we may be forced to close them down with no options. As interest rates and the price of construction materials continue to rise, we want to lock-in 10 financing at current rates. Right now there is a critical need and incredible opportunity to build a permanent and ample building for FTI. It is truly a blessing to partner in this historic mitzvah of establishing a citadel of Torah in southern New Jersey and make a lasting impact on future generations of Jews in the community and the entire region. I personally have been involved with the Yeshiva of Cherry Hill since it started, know the Roshei Yeshiva well, and can tell you that it's a chashuva makom Torah. Anyone who can help them with their new “ building campaign will certainly have a chelek in the haramas keren haTorah in Southern New Jersey and will be enabling many more talmidim to benefit from this very exceptional Yeshiva. Horav Shmuel Kamenetsky, Rosh Yeshiva, Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia I had the privilege of spending a Shabbos in the Foxman Torah Institute and was very impressed by the yeshiva. There is great potential for growth and they could become a major national torah mossad. There “ is a critical need for more space and anyone who helps in their building campaign will have a share in the impressive accomplishments of the yeshiva. Horav Akiva Grunblatt, Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbincal Seminary of America, Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim I am very familiar with the Mesivta of Cherry Hill and can tell you that they treat each bochur mamash like a son. We have sent a good number of our bachurim there, and have been absolutely thrilled with the results. They are producing emesdika b’nei Torah, balei midos and emotionally healthy bachurim. “ It's a mitzva gedola to help this incredible makom Torah build a new building to enable them to be mechanech many more talmidim. Horav Yaakov Bender, Rosh Yeshiva, Yeshiva Darchei Torah FTI is blessed with amazing Roshei Yeshiva and faculty, so capable, warm, and caring. It is heartwarming to see FTI bursting at the seams, and such a blessing for our community. “ Rabbi Bernard Rothman, Rabbi Emeritus, Congregation Sons of Israel, Cherry Hill Rabbis Shimon Max, Yisrael Davidowitz and Chaim Juni built a beautiful, loving Yeshiva in Cherry Hill, NJ, bringing authentic chinuch to the youth of South Jersey and Philadelphia, and in doing so attracted talmidim from Lakewood and from across the nation. They are the only Mesivta and Bais Medrash in “ Southern New Jersey, setting up a Torahdik future for thousands of Jewish families, Bezras Hashem. Let us all help them build! Rabbi Aaron Kotler, President, Beth Medrash Govoha As a parent at FTI, I see firsthand the incredible dedication of the Rebbeim. It is truly an amazing mossad, worthy of your support to build their building so more boys can experience chinuch as it was meant to be. “ Yaakov Friedler, Proud FTI Parent The Yeshiva gave me a robust foundation in Torah learning and mussar, and laid the groundwork for my professional success as an actuary. The Rebbeim lovingly showed me the beauty and joy of a Torah “ lifestyle, inspiring me to lead my life as a ben-Torah with a lifelong commitment to personal growth and dedication to the klal. Accordingly, they are no different than other dissident movements throughout our history that have rejected these basic tenets. We therefore inform the public that in our considered opinion, “Open Orthodoxy” is not a form of Torah Judaism (Orthodoxy), and that any rabbinic ordination (which they call “semicha”) granted by any of its affiliated entities to their graduates does not confer upon them any rabbinic authority. May the Almighty have mercy on the remnants of His people and repair all breaches in the walls of the Torah, and may we be worthy to witness the raising of the glory of Hashem and His sacred Torah.

‘Yikar Sahaduta Dipum Bidatta’ R. Tzvi Hirsch Levin, the Besamim Rosh and the Chida ‘Yikar Sahaduta Dipum Bidatta’ R. Tzvi Hirsch Levin, the Besamim Rosh and the Chida Rabbi Moshe Maimon, Jackson NJ Some of the worst epidemics we have known in our history have indirectly been the catalyst for important contributions by scholars who produced their valuable works under quarantine. Eliezer Brodt has published in these pages considerable lists of such scholarship, from bygone plagues down to the current terrible epidemic, which highlight the vast scope of this literary bounty. I recently came across a very interesting sefer-epidemic connection which I have not seen mentioned yet. This material highlights the contribution of a scholar who was quite probably in quarantine when he produced his indices to a well-known and much debated sefer—R. Saul Berlin’s storied publication, Besamim Rosh. Perhaps most famous (or infamous) for its reputation as the ultimate rabbinic forgery, an exhaustive history of this volume has already been written (and interested readers would do well to refresh their memory with the excellent survey in this blog post by Dan Rabinowitz & Eliezer Brodt; see also Eliezer Brodt’s exhaustive bibliography on the subject in a footnote in Yeshurun, vol. 24, pp. 425-427). My own study of the saga of this sefer during the present COVID-19 quarantine era can hopefully shed light on some striking details pertaining to this account. R. Tzvi Hirsch Levin in defense of Besamim Rosh Those who have followed the rocky history associated with Besamim Rosh will recall the strenuous defense of this sefer penned by R.

GEDOLIM LETTERS on Vaccination, Parental Rights, and Religious Freedom Gedolim Letters on Vaccination, Parental Rights and Religious Freedom • 1 Introduction is publication has been prepared on behalf of the talmidim of Moreinu Harav Shmuel Kamenetzky, shlit”a, Moreinu Harav Elya Ber Wachtfogel, shlit”a, and Moreinu Harav Malkiel Kotler, shlit”a. In this chapter, when mention is made of “our Gedolim,” the reference is to these three of our leading American Gedolim. Our Gedolim have made their views on vaccination known to their talmidim and to their petitioners. eir view is not extreme. ey do not advocate against vaccination. ey rule that vaccination is a parental choice, and that parents may not be coerced into vaccination. Perhaps most importantly, they state that parents who choose not to vaccinate should be viewed as parents exercising a right and making a justiable decision, not as agitators recklessly endangering the public welfare. is publication refutes the assertions—which have been recently circulated widely—that all Gedolim obligate parents to vaccinate, and that non-vaccinating parents are rotzchim and rodm. Non-vaccinating parents in our communities are acting with the full consent of da’as Torah, yet they are being maligned and vilied, and, in countless cases, victimized and hurt. e achdus and shalom within our communities and families is being gravely damaged; the above unfounded and untrue assertions have had much to do with it. • Call for Leadership Reverberates at Opening Night of Convention
Call for Leadership Reverberates at Opening Night of Convention November 13, 2015 “Leadership. Yourself. Your family. Your community.” The theme of the 93rd annual Agudath Israel of America convention – leadership – was straightforward and applicable to every individual in our community. This was evident in the strong, diverse attendance at the opening night of the convention. The energy and interest that participants displayed in its various sessions was palpable. Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut, the menu of food for thought was rich. So many speakers, so many topics, highlighting the importance of leadership – particularly cultivating the inner leader within each and every one of us. In addition to the thousands of men and women onsite, there were live broadcasts in 22 communities around the world, and thousands followed the sessions live online. Concurrent Sessions The convention opened with three concurrent sessions. One discussion revolved around the definition of leadership, and the many misperceptions thereof. A candid, upbeat conversation was held by a panel of well-known leaders: Yisroel Besser, Contributing Editor of Mishpacha Magazine; Rabbi Ronnie Greenwald, Director of Camp Sternberg and Dean of Bnot Chaya; lecturer and business executive Charlie Harary; and Rabbi Yaakov Salomon, LCSW, psychotherapist, writer and lecturer. The panelists discussed how one can find leadership roles even in a time when our community is filled with leaders, institutions and organizations. Rabbi Greenwald, a trailblazer in the chinuch world who has been involved in numerous complex issues, laid down the gauntlet: “Leadership needs to start somewhere – start with your own family.
