Management’s Responsibility for the Consolidated Financial Statements Management is responsible for the preparation and fair presentation of these consolidated financial statements in accordance with Canadian public sector accounting standards, and for such internal control as management determines is necessary to enable the preparation of consolidated financial statements that are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. Auditors’ Responsibility Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these consolidated financial statements based on our audit. We conducted our audit in accordance with Canadian generally accepted auditing standards. Those standards require that we comply with ethical requirements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the consolidated financial statements are free from material misstatement. An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the consolidated financial statements. The procedures selected depend on our judgment, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of consolidated financial statements, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, we consider internal control relevant to the entity’s preparation and fair presentation of consolidated financial statements in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity’s internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of consolidated financial statements. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained in our audit is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit opinion. Staff investigate diseases spread by animals, insects, blood, food, water and respiratory contact. They monitor disease patterns, and plan approaches to reduce or limit the spread of illness. Individual follow-up and education is provided as well as group educational opportunities. Food Safety - 306.655.4605 Public health inspectors provide inspection of food service facilities such as restaurants, food processors and slaughterhouses. They offer FOODSAFE™ courses, investigate complaints and food-borne illness outbreaks.   • Decreased Shr Funding for Outpatient Physiotherapy in Saskatoon
    DECREASED SHR FUNDING FOR OUTPATIENT PHYSIOTHERAPY IN SASKATOON The Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) contracted Smithwick's Physiotherapy to provide outpatient physiotherapy services to clients in Saskatoon for many years. The number of patients provided this service was 1440 annually, the equivalent of 2.5 Physiotherapists. The demand for the funded appointments exceeded the contract allocation, thus a wait list of 12 weeks was expected at the completion of the contract in March 2017. The contract allowed for one assessment and three visits per client annually. News was recently received that the SHR would not be renewing the contract at the end of March due to the SHR's recent financial sustainability plan and the need to decrease their spending going forward. Smithwick's Physiotherapy will continue to offer private payer and third party insurer services that they have always provided. This decision has left a huge void in our community for outpatient physiotherapy services, especially in a demographic that economically demonstrated the most need. The Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association and other providers are seeing an increase in inquiries about how to access funded physiotherapy services in Saskatoon. There are Saskatchewan Health insured outpatient services available at the following sites funded through Saskatoon Health Region: Royal University Hospital provides outpatient physiotherapy services prioritizing more urgent needs such as post-surgical patients, acute injury, patients with lymphedema and pediatric patients for whom the long term impact would be significant if treatment is delayed. At this time Priority 1 wait time is 2-3 weeks. For chronic conditions, such as low back pain, the wait time is approximately 3-4 months.

    Please Select Your Health Region: Athabasca Cypress Five Hills Heartland Keewatin Yatthe Kelsey Trail Mamawetan Churchill River Prairie North Prince Albert Parkland Regina Qu’Appelle X Sun Country Sunrise Facility Name BETHANY PIONEER VILLAGE (Middle Lake) and Number: 73795 Demographics: Affiliated with (but not owned and operated by) Saskatoon Health Region 36 Long Term Care beds Age of Building: 32 years Date of visit (DD/MM/YYYY): 30/03/2017 Please list those from the RHA that attended: Rod MacKenzie, Director, Seniors’ Health & Continuing Care Please describe what is working well as identified through your visit and discussions with residents and families: - Bethany Pioneer Village is a picturesque long-term care home located in rural Saskatchewan that will be celebrating its 60th anniversary this fall (October 2017). - The home is kept in meticulous condition – with shiny floors, clean surfaces and in excellent repair.- providing a warm and inviting atmosphere for residents, their families, staff and guests. - There is a strong sense of community in the Home, especially when a new resident is welcomed, creating a mini reunion and a ‘neighbours caring for neighbours’ culture. - Bethany Pioneer Village is co-located with assisted living homes, creating a safe environment for seniors to age in the community and eventually transition smoothly into long-term care when the time comes. - Bethany Pioneer Village is supported by dental services, allowing residents to easily access oral care and greatly improve their oral hygiene, which directly impacts their quality of life. - The leadership and care teams are currently exploring implementation of the Emotional Intelligence Theory, which will encourage staff to recognize, understand and manage their own emotions, in order to contribute to improving the overall morale of the Home.
