Following a review of the literature to provide a context for this kind of research, the paper offers demographic data about the students on both sites (n=27 at each site) and describes visits to the middle school and the university: The paper uses samples from letters to give a flavor of the richness of the project and explores issues arising from the letters and the entire experience. The paper concludes that the benefits were "enormous" for all participants, and that it is important for a teacher-educator to keep in touch with the realities of the public schools. Contains 10 references; appendixes include a data sheet for participants; a survey of reading interests, and 2 original letters from middle schoolers. That sounds simple, but it’s been a long time coming for the ‘90s child actor turned prolific musician. As a kid, Lewis starred in films like The Wizard and Troop Beverly Hills before pursing music. Her band Rilo Kiley was part of the wave of indie groups that defined the alternative music scene of the aughts. But in recent years, Lewis has faced a series of setbacks: the disbanding of Rilo Kiley, the death of her father, and chronic insomnia. https://bitchmedia.org/article/interview-jenny-lewis-music-and-voyager-feminism 1/9 10/15/2015 Jenny Lewis Is Writing Songs Without Apology | Bitch Media It was these experiences that provided the material for last year’s The Voyager (http://www.jennylewis.com/), her first solo release since 2008’s Acid Tongue. For Lewis, making The Voyager was freeing. Without the pressure of bandmates, she was able to have total control over her music, albeit with the occasional guidance of Beck and Ryan Adams. Lewis has also returned to her Hollywood roots and scored best-friend flick Very Good Girls and 2014 film Song One, which starred her friend Anne Hathaway. Lewis most recently wrote a song with boyfriend and collaborator Jonathan Rice for Meryl Streep’s rocker character, Ricki, in the new film Ricki and the Flash (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3623726/).

FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH Große Elbstr. 277 a ∙ 22767 Hamburg Tel.

URGENT! PLEASE DELIVER TO: www.cablefax.com, Published by Access Intelligence, LLC, Tel: 301-354-2101 6 Pages Today Friday — January 12, 2007 Volume 18 / No. 9 Integration Ban: A Look at the Aftermath While Comcast, Cablevision and BendBroadband know their fate, there’s no word on when the FCC might rule on pending integration ban waiver requests from NCTA, Charter and others. Nothing chmn Kevin Martin said at CES Wed offers much hope that the Commission will delay the July 1 deadline for deploying set-tops with sepa- rable security. NCTA wants the ban delayed until ops deploy a new downloadable security system, or until 2010 (whichever comes first). In a statement, Martin said he would have “preferred to establish a timeframe for cable operators to develop and deploy downloadable security with adequate assurance that this timeframe would actu- ally be met,” but in the absence of “real progress” on that or 2-way plug & play discussions, “I think the Commission needs to move forward with its current rules.” While the Media Bureau indicated it would grant waivers to small ops who commit to going all-digital before ‘09, those ops aren’t exactly turning cartwheels. “We highly appreciate that Chairman Martin and the FCC are sensitive to the unique concerns of smaller operators in the Media Bureau’s orders on set-top boxes. However, it is, unfortunately, unrealistic that most smaller cable companies will be able to upgrade to all-digital prior to the DTV deadline in February 2009,” said ACA pres/CEO Matt Polka. Like Comcast, ACA thinks that low-cost digital boxes should be exempt from the ban.

  • The Spectral Voice and 9/11
SILENCIO: THE SPECTRAL VOICE AND 9/11 Lloyd Isaac Vayo A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY August 2010 Committee: Ellen Berry, Advisor Eileen C. Cherry Chandler Graduate Faculty Representative Cynthia Baron Don McQuarie © 2010 Lloyd Isaac Vayo All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Ellen Berry, Advisor “Silencio: The Spectral Voice and 9/11” intervenes in predominantly visual discourses of 9/11 to assert the essential nature of sound, particularly the recorded voices of the hijackers, to narratives of the event. The dissertation traces a personal journey through a selection of objects in an effort to seek a truth of the event. This truth challenges accepted narrativity, in which the U.S. is an innocent victim and the hijackers are pure evil, with extra-accepted narrativity, where the additional import of the hijacker’s voices expand and complicate existing accounts. In the first section, a trajectory is drawn from the visual to the aural, from the whole to the fragmentary, and from the professional to the amateur. The section starts with films focused on United Airlines Flight 93, The Flight That Fought Back, Flight 93, and United 93, continuing to a broader documentary about 9/11 and its context, National Geographic: Inside 9/11, and concluding with a look at two YouTube shorts portraying carjackings, “The Long Afternoon” and “Demon Ride.” Though the films and the documentary attempt to reattach the acousmatic hijacker voice to a visual referent as a means of stabilizing its meaning, that voice is not so easily fixed, and instead gains force with each iteration, exceeding the event and coming from the past to inhabit everyday scenarios like the carjackings.
