On loan or lease to other tramways Tram Number: Historic and technical details: #2 Status: In storage Maximum Traction Bogie Tram History: This tram first operated in Melbourne as Hawthorn Tramways Trust #20. With the formation of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board, it became M&MTB # 126. It was sold to the SECV Geelong Tramways in 1947 to become #34. Upon the closure of the Geelong Tramways in 1956, the tram was transferred to Bendigo where it became #2. Builder: Duncan & Fraser, Adelaide, South Australia (1916) for the Hawthorn Tramways Trust as #20. Technical Information: Trucks - Brill 22E. Motors - 2 X 65 hp GE 201. Controllers - GE B23E. Braking - hand brakes and air operated manual-lapping valves. Weight - 16.0 tonnes. Length - 13.59 metres. #3 Status: Undergoing restoration at the main depot. Single Truck Battery Tram History: Tram services using these trams commenced in June 1890 but because of the inefficiency of the battery trams, the entire system was abandoned in September 1890 and the assets sold to the Bendigo Tramway Company Limited. Builder: Brush Electrical Engineering Company Limited, Loughborough, United Kingdom (1889) for the Sandhurst and Eaglehawk Tramway Company Limited (S&ETCo Ltd) as #3. Technical Information: The trams were powered by a single motor, with a wheel operated controller located on each platform. Braking was obtained by the use of a hand brake also located on each platform. -

To respond to resolution of Council requesting “that a study be undertaken regarding the proposed bridge, its likely usage, positive attributes and negative impacts.” Recommendation from Management 2. That the Docklands and Major Projects Committee note the contents of the report on the proposed Convention Centre Bridge. Key Issues 3. Council has committed $15M (at December 2006 dollars) plus escalation capped at $2.1 million resulting in a $17.1M maximum contribution to the construction of a new Pedestrian Bridge over the Yarra River between Seafarers Rest at North Wharf Park and the new Convention Centre. 4. Attachment 1 to this report includes the requested study and a drawing indicating the bridge in its precinct context. 5. Council have asked State Government to provide pedestrian and cyclist data related to the proposed bridge. Time Frame 6. The Plenary Group (Multiplex/Plenary Consortium) have contracted the State Government to deliver the Bridge and Convention Centre by the end of 2008. Relation to Council Policy 7. The relationship between the Bridge and Council policies is highlighted in City Plan 2010: Connected and Accessible City. The following strategic directions relate to the proposed Convention Centre Bridge:- 7.1. Strategic Direction 1.5, Connection Opportunities (p 27) includes a potential future link on the alignment of the proposed Convention Centre Bridge; Strategic Direction 1.6, Strategic Opportunities (p 31) calls for enhanced “connectivity between key sites along the Yarra River, Docklands and surrounding areas, including the Central City, Port Melbourne and West Melbourne.” Strategic Direction 3.6 (p 49) calls for improved links between key sites and activities in the city and to facilitate pedestrian and bicycle access in and around the city. -

Process for Congestion Relief Link and Project Priority Ranking for CIS FY 1322 Congestion Management System (CMS) congestion link priority rankings were developed for all the links in the CMS. These link rankings serve two purposes. First is to rank the links so that priority can be established by location so that the highest priority congested locations can be identified. Second, for highway projects that have already been identified, they can be prioritized for congestion. The link rankings were developed using scores from “0” to “10” for each measure and the weighted by the percent for each measure to obtain a 100% score. A score of “10” was given for the highest priority values for each given measure used. The Congestion Relief priority rankings are primarily based on congestion performance measures, with consideration also given to related roadway usage characteristics. Congestion performance measures include volume to capacity (V/C) ratios and delays. Roadway usage characteristics include AADT traffic volumes, function class and strategic network. The congestion performance measures comprise 70% of the ranking while the roadway usage characteristics comprise the remaining 30%. As V/C ratios have been the most common performance measure used for congestion priority rankings, the V/C ratio scores were given 40% of the overall weight for the overall score, split evenly between AM and PM V/C ratios. The highest one‐way AM V/C was given 20% of the overall weight, while the highest one‐way PM V/C was also given 20% of the overall weight. Delays were given 30% of the overall weight, split by two types of delays. -

Z1 class tram number 81 arrived at Hawthorn Depot early on the morning of 19 June A Final Fling 2 2016, towed from Preston Workshops by an A class Politics and the Origins of the Z Class 2 tram. Z1 81 was selected for preservation in our Teething Problems 3 museum for a number of different reasons. Z1 81 In Service 4 As a Z1 class tram, it represents the renewal of Open House Melbourne 2015 5 investment in Melbourne's tramway system from Spike the Rhino Takes Up Residence 6 1975 onwards, ending two decades of neglect by the State Government. Victorian Heritage Database place details - 27/9/2021 Spencer Street Bridge Location: Between Spencer Street & Clarendon Street,, MELBOURNE VIC 3000 - Property No B6799 Heritage Inventory (HI) Number: Listing Authority: HI Extent of Registration: Statement of Significance: The Spencer Street Bridge built by the Victorian Railways Construction Branch in 1929-30 is significant as a major new crossing of the Yarra River reflecting engineering and design standards intended to enhance the Yarra River as an aesthetic and recreational adjunct to the City of Melbourne. The Spencer Street Bridge is significant for aesthetic/architectural, historic, and technical reasons at a State level. Spencer Street Bridge was constructed after a long period of stagnation in road and bridge development in Victoria in a climate of controversy and rivalry between public authorities, local councils and politicians. The Spencer Street Bridge is of historical significance as the first major new crossing (as opposed to replacement of older bridges on existing crossings such as the 1924 Church Street Bridge) to be created over the lower Yarra in Melbourne after a considerable lull in such projects since the Morell Bridge of 1899-1900. Its construction demonstrates the political difficulties of the time and the growing importance of motor vehicle traffic to Melbourne's commerce. The Spencer Street Bridge was the first permanent structure over the Yarra built below "the falls" (a natural rock barrier that formed the upstream limit of practical river navigation) and as such is historically important because it was the first bridge to effectively cut the city off from direct contact with its port. -
Hawthorn Heritage Study
HAWTHORN HERITAGE STUDY APRIL 1993 The Hawthorn Heritage Study was one of the three Special Strategy Plan Projects started during 1991. The Heritage Study was prepared by a team led by Meredith Gould, Conservation Architect, with substantial input from the Townscape and Heritage Topic Group as part of the Hawthorn Strategy Plan process. Some sections of the study were completed in draft form as early as late 1991; other sections have only reached completion now. This Study is the first ever comprehensive assessment of Hawthorn's urban and landscape heritage. Every bUilding in Hawthorn has been assessed for its heritage value. Significant trees, parks, landscapes and roadways have also been evaluated and recorded. The heritage areas proposed in the Study were endorsed by Hawthorn Council for the purpose of public consultation on 10 December 1991. Comments were sought by means of a map and explanatory material in a Strategy Plan booklet letterboxed throughout Hawthorn in March 1991. On 25 August 1992, Council resolved that a proposed Planning Scheme Amendment be drafted to include: Heritage protection for areas Protection of individual buildings of stand alone and contributory signiticance outside heritage areas. Voluntary registration of other individual places outside heritage areas, for the purpose of heritage protection. A degree of heritage control substantially reduced compared to normal Urban Conservation Areas. Council on 20 April 1993 resolved to publish the completed study; to notify property owners of buildings recommended for inclusion on the Historic Buildings Register, the National Estate Register and the Significant Tree Register; and to refer for further officer investigation the recommendations on signiticant street trees, kerbs/gutterslfootpaths/roadways, laneways, drains and creeks, Yarra River/Gardiners Creek, parks/reserves, and the establishment of an internal monitoring system.
