Board of Education works to build, grow and enhance the well-being of citizens in Baldwin County. Clair Dorough Vice-Chair Vision Statement City of Bay Minette Vickie Langham The United Way of Baldwin County is a network of Secretary/Treasurer organizations that brings people together to tackle Collins Aerospace community issues. Our goal is to create lasting Melissa Hollingsworth change by addressing the underlying causes to Past-Chair problems in the areas of health, education and Baldwin EMC financial stability. This is accomplished through Vinson Bradley a collaborative effort with our community partners Coastal Community College and programs designed to address the needs of Baldwin County citizens. Alabama Sheriff’s Boys Ranch First Steps is a UWBC program American Red Cross that partners with local Association for Retarded Citizens pediatrician offices to promote Baldwin County Education Coalition early literacy and healthy eating. This is Baldwin Youth Services accomplished by putting age appropriate Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama books in the hands of children at every well Boy Scouts, Mobile Area Council visit from ages 6 months to 5 years old. In CARE House addition to books, each child receives a Catholic Social Services pre-school sized portion plate and activity Christian Service Center book that promotes healthy eating at their Drug Education Council 18 month check up. This program provides Ecumenical Ministries the ability to introduce the first steps of Fairhope Point Clear Rotary Youth Club literacy and healthy eating to a child from Family Promise their first steps in life. Feeding the Gulf Coast Girl Scouts, Southern Alabama Summer Reading Goodwill Easter Seals Home of Grace for Women In an effort to bridge the literacy gap in summer Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation months, UWBC brings summer reading programs Light of the City to children in youth clubs across the county. We North Baldwin Ecumenical Association do this by providing high quality hard back books Ruff Wilson Youth Club that children read at summer camp and then Snook Youth Club take home to keep. Teachers work with each South Alabama Lawyers Program student with an approved curriculum to ensure South Baldwin Literacy Council reading comprehension. A trained specialist For Children (UMPC) is on hand 24 hours a day to provide confidential referrals for community services to individuals in Children with no insurance need of assistance. are less likely to receive proper medical care which often leads to excessive absences from school. The UMPC was formed more than 20 years ago and is a unique program provided by UWBC that enables under-insured and un-insured children in Baldwin County public schools to receive proper medical care.
