This is Baldwin Youth Services accomplished by putting age appropriate Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama books in the hands of children at every well Boy Scouts, Mobile Area Council visit from ages 6 months to 5 years old. In CARE House addition to books, each child receives a Catholic Social Services pre-school sized portion plate and activity Christian Service Center book that promotes healthy eating at their Drug Education Council 18 month check up. What happens when you give where you live. 2020 year end results 3,317,248 lbs of food distributed to the hungry · 119,597 summer lunches to children 7,143 meals to homeless families · 7,259 families provided rent, utilities & medical 2,199 nights in homeless shelter ·1,408 calls to crisis hot-line · 1,376 peer helpers 1,252 boy and girl scouts · 1,710 scholastic books provided to preschool children 448 youth in summer camps · 1,578 children received weekend backpacks of food 351 child abuse victims served 183 at risk children paired with positive mentor 121 special needs families provided day services 194 adults in residential rehab 63 intervention stays for troubled youth 98 pro-bono legal cases 222 military families assisted in times of crisis 149 house fire assistance 1,087 domestic violence victims safe shelter 47 school nurses supported Additional programs and funding for 2020 In 2020 Baldwin County has been negatively impacted by both the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Sally. United Way of Baldwin County has been at the forefront of both disasters providing assistance to residents in our community.     “Choosing Education as a Career” Seminar: Mobile, Alabama In an effort to recruit more racially/ethnically diverse candidates, the COE held a national diverse student recruitment seminar in Mobile, Alabama, on June 7 – 8, 2018, titled “Choosing Education as a Career.” Invitations were extended to middle and high school principals, counselors, and parents in schools across Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Kentucky. Thirty-seven individuals from six states attended the seminar and learned from MSU COE personnel about admissions, multicultural leadership scholarships, and year-long internship opportunities. The goal was to form partnerships with schools to recruit middle and high school students from underrepresented groups to choose teaching as a career. Some of these schools are now exploring options for working with the MSU EPP. Follow-up will be conducted in the late fall 2018 / early spring 2019 to determine how many students from the schools represented may be choosing education as a career as a result of this effort.
